Mine, too (based only on stills - I didn't watch)
I liked Cate Blanchet's dress best - Charlize's pale yellow just struck me as washed out and floppy, though I like the pretty, floaty pastel thing, generally. I liked how JLo did it better, though - tangerine is a hard color to wear, but she can, and she looked great (also good that it wasn't outrageous and her hair was ... normal looking, for a change). Jennifer Garner just seems unable to look good in an evening gown - not sure if it is her or if she should just fire the hell out of her stylist, but she ends up in the worst looking dresses (at least on her). Patricia Clarkson did the "pretty chiffon" thing best of all, though - that was a gorgeous dress. Interestingly, with the whole "floaty soft bias cut" dress that so many people opted for, I think a lot of actresses have gotten too skinny to wear it (see: Evan Rache Wood, Holly Hunter). Bias cuts look good because they cling to curves. If they cling to bone (or even well defined muscle, really), then they make you look like a dessicated dead body under a sheet at the morgue.
Gwen Stephani looked terrible. No one looks good in capped sleeves. On an intellectual level, I understand that some fashionistas like her because she wears wacky experimental things, but it just doesn't do it for me. I liked her little feathered bag, though. (Had nothing to do with what she was wearing, but alone it was cute.) Now, Jamie Lee Curtis looked pretty good in white - age appropriate, showed off still good cleavage, and a pretty cool necklace. Diane Keaton looked better than she usually does - but that is saying almost nothing, and she still managed to look both frumpy and pathetically wannabe cool.
I think Gwen has to beat Scarlett for worst looking overall, but, yeah, that nude dress was pretty stupid looking, as was Evan Rachel Wood's (bad, bad saggy fit). Note to any of you who find yourselves accepting awards in front of Joan R: if you don't know what you're doing, go with something safe (see: Sophia Coppola).
I agree with you, Slave, I don't know what was up with Zellwegger's dress - she isn't nearly as chunky as that made her look, the top is just cut really, really badly for her somehow.
In the still I saw of Depp and girlfriend, they are both shooting "Blue Steel" at the camera. Pretty goddamn funny, entirely apart from whateverthefuck she has on.
