You'll rot in hell for that one, NotBob. Any reference to an Eagles song is worthy of condemnation. But damn, now you've put an especially bad one into my head. Fuck you.

Don Henley must die.

This bears watching:

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - In true "Sopranos" style, the brouhaha over the fifth season of the hit HBO mob drama has turned into a bare-knuckled brawl -- and could even kill the show.

Production on season five, scheduled to get under way March 24, remained in peril Wednesday, as HBO executives said negotiations with the series star, James Gandolfini (news), are dead.

The last offer from HBO to Gandolfini on the table for the 13-episode fifth season was for $11 million, part of which was to be paid in profit participation.

But HBO insiders insist Gandolfini's camp was asking for much more than had been reported: $27 million for season five, and $16.7 million for a sixth season should that get ordered, for an average of $21 million per season for a fifth and sixth batch.

Please rent it Paigow and let me know what those missing lyrics are - and thanks to you and Thurgreed for the Constance Fry part. there's a whole first verse too, that ends with "We're brothers to the end", but that's all I remember. Or I suppose I could always rent it - that's an idea.

In Philly, it's worth fifty bucks...

Thurgreed,

WTF? I try to engage in some wordplay with you and you respond with an ad hominem attack that would give a psych grad student enough fodder to fill her fucking dissertation! (The word "projection" comes to mind.)

If you had bothered to read my post with care -- and please, spare me all the reasons that you wouldn't in fact bother -- you might have noticed that I mocked myself as much as I mocked you. Gently.

You invited me to play. I obliged, choosing my words carefully, thinking they might engage the humor and intellect that you display when you're not busy calling people assjack and wackadoo (well, sometimes the wackadoo is funny) and reminding them, whether directly or indirectly, of your status as a longtime FB poster who is friends with FBers off board. You responded to gentle and deserved mockery with a blunderbuss of a post that made up in hostility what it lacked in reasoning and wit.

And even though I've read your posts, and I know that cheap shots are part of your shtick, and that you get your hackles up at the slightest perceived provocation, I wasn't expecting that. I thought you might have tried to be clever yourself.

My hopes for the three of us (you, me, and my ratio) are dashed.

George Miller was a comic. He had white hair and kinda had a grumpy old man persona., like Charles Grodin. He'd typically go on Letterman (or Carson back in the day) and rant about what made him "angry." He might have been the only comic from those days not to have a sitcom.

Second, I am left wondering if you are that flabby, pale, lopsided haircut, closet eyeliner wearing pussy from Horace Mann who I went to Yale with in the late eighties? You my dear boy are what we non PC college kids used to call a "eurofag". NTTAWWT. But please, just bc you were a loser in high school and had to get half your head shaevd and had to shop at Flip to be different, does not make the Smiths a decent band.
I never went to Yale, had an assymetrical haircut, or sighed longingly at the thin, athletic, cross-country runners at my high school. I never even got into The Smiths until college. I grew up in the SF Bay Area, and "How Soon Is Now?" was played consistently for a good seven years on Live 105 (the local radio station). I maintain that The Smiths were a great band, and that Johnny Marr was a great guitarist. I really like The Smiths musically. Maybe my relationship with bands is different than most. I wasn't going to become a vegan or change my sexual orientation because of some singer.

paigowprincess wrote:
Elvis Costello? He speaks for himself. Alilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllissssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon. God. He sucks. Remember that horrid episdoe of Melrose Place with that song?
Actually, I do remember that Melrose Place episode...and I still cringe when I hear "Allisom" because the memory of Andrew Shue singing that damn song is burrowed into my head.... but let's face it, whatever song that soccer player-with-an-agent sang was going to be ruined. It's hardly Elvis' fault. Besides, all episodes of Melrose Place were awful. I watched them regularly, for a time, but that show was one of the worst shows of the 90's.

To move this thread along, I'll start a related topic. What bands have suffered the greatest backlash from fans or critics? I'll offer my top 5:

1. Veruca Salt. After "Seether" broke, everyone was calling them sellouts and Breeders wannabees (not that The Breeders did a whole lot after Last Splash). Some even thought they picked an indie label just so they could tread on its credibility.

2. The Lovin' Spoonful. Two of their members get busted for pot in San Francisco. One of them is Canadian, and the Feds threaten to deport him unless he names names. Afterwards, the hippies shun them.

3. Van Halen. Two words: Sammy Hagar.

4. Creed. They'd be number one on the list, except they suck so much, it's unfair to give them first place in anything.

5. Urge Overkill. An entire city shuns them after they leave Touch & Go. Producer Steve Albini publicly attacks them any chance he gets. Their nickname for Chicago catches on...and Liz Phair cribs it for Exile in Guyville.
Any other takers?

What does one get the one-year old that has everything? I've already knitted him two sweaters in his short life, so am not going to give him another one yet. This kid is drowning in toys, so I don't really want to get him another one. He loves the three stooges, so I was thinking of getting him a video of that, but he is already laughing too much at other's misfortune (like when he burst out laughing at the kid in his playgroup who slipped and fell), so I think his mom would be annoyed at me for encouraging that behavior (and his mom is one of my best friends). I'm kind of stumped. His birthday is two Saturdays from now. Maybe I should get something for the parents? A contribution to a 529 plan? Should I ask the lawyers with kids board? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
books. specifically, those board books (picture books with cardboard "pages" instead of paper, so that it's harder for the kid to destroy them). never too many books .. . .

Remember when Leno was funny back in the early to mid-80s. What the fuck happened to that guy? And what's up with the reverse skunkhead hairdo? Is he trying to look funny to make up for his lack of humor?

March 2003: after disrespecting the CinC during wartime while on foreign soil the Dixie hicks go from top of the pops back to to the bottom of the trailer trash heap.

Watching Will Ferrell hosting Letterman; he could do this for a living if he wanted to.

Anyways, interesting topic JM about the musical backlash. Of course, all pop acts that reach mega-superstardom suffer a backlash from critics (NKOTB, Spice Girls, BSB, N'Sync), so I think it's more interesting to come up with acts who were popular one week, and about whom, the next week, all but the lamest lamo-s were saying "I never liked ..... " I agree that Creed is an all time hall-of-famer. But how about these that come to mind.

1. Extreme. There's a hole in my musical talent that cannot possibly be filled by anyone . . . never has a backlash been so deserved.

2. Courtney Love. Very cool for a few months. Then . . .

3. Def Leppard. When they switched from their Pyromania phase to their "Pour some sugar on me" bit, the backlash began, and deservedly so.

and DL's brother-in-Lange

4. Bryan Adams.

5. Well this might seem weird, but how about Prince? Remember when "Purple Rain" came out? At least in my corner of the motherland, he was totally popular, but then if you liked Prince you were a total fag (fag having nothing to do with homosexuality, at that time and place). Then at some point when I get to college, Prince is very cool again.

ewww Crispin Glover is on. He's freaky. I gotta go now.
