My son came home from daycare saying something new last week -- at first I thought it was "ewwww," but now I realize that he's been saying "E/O!"
Maybe you've been brainwashing him, but he seems to be your biggest fan.

Most people just have a series of several general titles, based upon their number of posts. The one you have now is simply one of those titles.

Monica Fills The Bill for Fox
By Lisa de Moraes
Thursday, March 20, 2003; Page C01
Monica Lewinsky, the former presidential
mistress who alternately runs from and toward
celebrity, has signed to host Fox's next reality
series, "Mr. Personality."
The show gets the coveted "Joe Millionaire"
Monday time slot, starting April 21.
In "Mr. Personality," a young, beautiful single
woman will court several eligible men who must
rely strictly on their personalities to captivate
her. That's because each man will have some
sort of mask or hood on throughout the "dating"
process.
Which is okay because, as Ms. Lewinsky can
attest, personality is mostly from the waist down.

Maybe they should combine this with "Extreme Makeover", that reality show where everyone was getting ass implants and nose jobs. After all, as even Monica should be able to attest, you've got to look at the guy's face sometime.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, this is my first time on the new board and I'm not sure if I'm posting this the right way...but here goes.
I have interviewed with a branch office of a Biglaw firm to be a lateral associate. I expect to receive an offer after the firm conducts their customary conflicts check and due diligence. They have asked me to sign a release which authorizes them to check my criminal history, credit history, and DMV records. I was recently arrested for a DUI (a misdemeanor), which, according to my lawyer, will definitely show up on my criminal record, even though there hasn't been a conviction or even an arraignment yet. I intend to plead not guilty and fight the charge. This is my first criminal offense.
First of all, I'm not 100% sure that the firm will actually conduct the criminal history check. I've lateraled to firms before, as have many of my friends, and we've never been subject to this kind of scrutiny, which feels quite invasive.
Should I just tell them up front about the arrest or wait until they find it? What effect do you think this will have on my receiving an offer? Should I tell my headhunter instead?
Also, does anyone know if this could disqualify me from my state bar?

I dont do free advertising and I dont care what anyone thinks. As long as I know its quality, that is all that matters. Does anyone else really care who the fuck made my handbag? Is there not anything else to think about?
I'm actually from Guam which, while part of the US, is practically Japan, so I guess you've proved your point. There is something in my blood the draws me inexplicably to the LV label. I wonder if there's a transfusion I can have to rid me of this unfortunate proclivity.
For anyone who's interested (and for those of you who don't give a hoot), I ultimately went for a cole haan slouchy leather duffle (can't find a pic online anywhere). It is black pebbled leather with white piping trim, pockets for various electronic devices and, you'll be pleased to know, it is completely devoid of any and all labeling.

Bzzzzzt. If you sign a release, they will do it. How difficult is it these days to do an on-line check? Not at all. And when I lateraled to my firm, they ran similar checks (and had me pee in a cup, but that's a different story). Risk management, baby. They want to make sure that you are actually admitted to practice law and that you don't have a motive for swiping coins from the petty cash drawer before they entrust you with client confidences that may have monetary value.

In order: let them know up front, who knows?, and I would tell my contact at the firm, but I suppose telling the HH would work, too.
Iron Lung wrote:

Can't answer that one for you -- each state is different. Here in the State of Bliss, a DUI misdemeanor might give a bar applicant trouble, but not a current member. But who knows how it is where you are? Ask your lawyer -- after all, that's what you're paying him for, right? Or call the Bar.
Good luck.

This is a pretty serious issue. I do believe you are required to report conviction of crimes of certain types to state bars, but such requirements probably vary by state, and also, it depends upon the level of the crime. So you need to check with your bar. It probably has the information you need on its web site. I don't know if you are required to report an arrest. Again, you might need to make an anonymous call or have someone make one on your behalf to find out your obligations.
I don't know what to tell you about the firm. Since it is just an arrest you might tell them and explain yourself. On the other hand, you might keep mum and wait til they ask you about it, if they do. That is a tough one. I have a tendancy to be overly honest so I think others will probably have better advice for you.

While it's a judgment call, and a tough one, I wouldn't tell them. You haven't been convicted of anything, and you're innocent till proven otherwise. Plus there's always the chance they won't catch it in their check, while telling them guarantees they'll know.

It's impossible to tell whether it will affect your receiving an offer, but it would be a damn shame if it did given the commonplace and morally neutral nature of the charge. I'd be very surprised if it DQ'd you from the state bar.
I *would* tell your headhunter, who may have relationships with people at the firm that permit him/her to do effective spin control.

I will explain my guess on the Asian thing. Now I don't deny that I am a glittering generalizationist so take this fwiw. Every attempt to go to the LV store in Paris requires standing on aline that is 99% asian for an hour to get into the store. I am sure anyone who has been to this store can confirm this.
Second, I have two good friends who are Asian and not born in the US who both reside in So Cal or spent most of their American time there. THese girls are the worst label whores I have ever seen in my life. I dont know if it is bc this is their way of trying to blend in with the wealthier americans or cover up their immigrant background or if it is just some kind of Asian thing that ties into the asians at LV in paris. but they are the worst conspicuous consumers I have ever seen.
ANd I am not including patentpara as one of these two gals.
I say this as something I have observed. Kind of how I observed that black peopel are better singers. Not in a Randy and Mortay, "they are very material people" thing.

So after all that back and forth I schlepped through this morning in order to give you a reasoned response, you already went and bought a bag? Damn girl, you owe *me* a handbag! And everyone else who objected to logo-whoring deserves one too.
Just leather-stamp that ugly LV logo all over it and crayon it brown-and-liver if you really feel forlorn about getting a pretty bag instead. God knows, it'd look better than the real thing (current season's bags excepted). But meantime, try, try to erase that hideous LV fantasy out of your mind. The world doesn't need any more ugliness.

I changed my bracket last night to dump Holy Cross (it was an emotional pick), so I was nervous when they jumped ahead.

Problem now is that my mouth tastes bad. I have no toothbrush here. Wrigley's is not doing the job. Any ideas?

Even better is Orbit (tho the ads are really dumb and the packaging sucks). I split my gum purchases between Eclipse and Orbit.

Island Girl,
Your purse lust is contagious. I caught it last night and came home with a new bag (also black, with white stitching) and two pair of shoes. So you've already cost me a couple hundred dollars (all things were on sale), and have made me want to spend more -- as the Montparnasse tote has also caught my eye. In Camel. I do not wear camels or browns or anything that goes with said colors (I am a summer), so this mystifies me. It must be the adorable blue lining.
I bought two pair of shoes, one pedestrian pair for day, one dressy pair for an upcoming evening event. Why is it that shoes affect women so? When I tried on this dressy pair -- essentially a 4 inch heel, a sole, and two skinny satin straps with beads -- I felt ultra plus double hot (I'm not saying that I AM, I'm saying I felt that way), even though I was wearing those weird footies and a pair of tattered khakis and could do with a fresh pedicure. I will note, however, that my breath was fresh as cold mountain air.
