Thus the need for hangover cures that apply when the hangover is already there. Two common themes of the after the fact remedies are water (obviously) and salt. The salt helps the body absorb the water, and make you thirstier, so that you drink more (one of the problems with the drink a lot of water advice is that generally when I'm hungover, the last thing I want to do it drink a liter or water). That's why some people find McDonalds helps. Personally, I like mexican food, and in particular salsa, for the same reason. The salsa has the added bonus of containing chile, and spicy food cause your body to release endorphens that bring some additional relief.
