Just a little question...which of you folks deleted the board by mistake hmm?
Actually, I imagine we had some weird something happen, none of the other boards seem to have been impacted.
I have a backup, but it will take some time to implement it which I simply don't have right now. For the moment, here's a new board for ya.
And speaking of fashion, I imagine a lot of you will be watching the oscars, and wow Renee Zellweger has no breasts, but I digress, it will be interesting to see how things go without the long red carpet. They still seem to be doing interviews though.
And there is a fashion poll: TM, you should be happy! Halle won

Going with the aphorism, "Ignorance spreads thighs." I'll guess Slave.
Or did I get that aphorism backwards, I can never remember.

This is a nastily compelling movie. Man does Campbell Scott play quite *the* snappy talking, assholic misogynist. I haven't been so struck by one since reading the short story Wipeout by Thom Jones. The character playing his younger brother is a great foil. But damn is Scott a sleazy bastard.

Well it's still early enough here in the west for me to post some Oscar thoughts.
Worst Dressed: The guy who accepted the award for Eminem.
I also thought Geena Davis' dress was pretty bad, but she wasn't featured very prominently.
Worst speech in a big spot: Nicole Kidman. Incoherent.
Star of the night: Steve Martin. Best hosting job I can remember. Jokes were killer all night, and even more impressive, managed to set the perfectly appropriate tone. "Hosting the Oscars for a second time is like making love to a woman for a second time. I guess." or "Richard Gere failed to get nominated for a great performance in Chicago, to which I can only say, welcome to my world Richard Gere."
'Instead of making great movies twenty years ago, maybe I should have been having sex with fourteen year olds' award: Martin Scorsese
Justice is Served: Catherine Zeta Jones wins acting award, Renee no-talent doesn't. Perhaps there is a god.
Oh, and as for who stole the board, do what I do -- blame change-agent. Or my cleaning lady, who always hides everything.

Award for craziest eyebrows I have ever seen goes to Adrien Brody.
Award for luckiest girl in the world goes to Calista Flockhart. She is so out of her league with Harrison Ford that it makes the head spin. No way would she haev been at the awards if it werent for him. Her career is over. What is he thinking?
Award for luckiest guy in the world still goes to Ben Affleck. If ever there was a guy who doesnt deserve the spoils of fame and fortune it is this average Joe. I dont get it.
Award for most disgusting director goes to Roman Polansky. APparnetly his statutory rape involved drugging a 13 yo and anally raping her. What a life this guy has had. Someone should do a movie on him.
And I think Susan Sarandon, Nicole Kidman and like ten other people had the same dress on. Everyone says how beautiful Nicole Kidman is,but the woman completely lacks sex appeal.
Marcia Gay Harden should call her plastic surgeon and try to get her nose back. ANd speaking of nose jobs, did Barbra Streisand's nose appear to be a little smaller?
And I love that Diane Ladd, who must be 40 is dating a guy who probably isnt much over 30. Ditto Julianne Moore for marrying someone almost a decade younger.

Isn't Diane Lane involved with Streisand's step-son John Brolin?
My impressions:
Steve Martin was wonderful. Michael Moore was a schmuck. Adrien Brody was charming.
I liked seeing all the old acting award winners on stage, and Peter O'Toole gave the best honorary oscar speech I have heard -- humble and brief.
Hilary Swank's dress sucked. It looked like a prom dress from wal-mart. Toile over a mini-skirt? Ick.
Julianne Moore should fire whoever did her makeup. It was incredibly unnatural and unflattering. Cameron Diaz is a close second.
After watching the whole show, The Pianist is the movie I most want to see. Followed closely by Talk to Her.

Worst fit: Jennifer Garner. $4000 for a dress and you can't get the designer to loosen it up so your breasts aren't smooshing out over the top like little marshmallows?
Worst fashion trend: corpse-colored lipstick like Nicole Kidman and Barbra Streisand wore. Completely unflattering and undermined a smashing dress on Nicole.
Most improved: Geena Davis. Hair and dress not ot nearly as fussy and hideous as usual. Someone should get her a job again now that she won't be an embarrassment at awards shows.
Really liked: Julianne Moore's dress with the soft ruffles, great bold color complemented her skin and she's got the bod for it. Halle Berry can do no wrong. Kathy Bates putting on some glam after all those years of unflattering "I Know I'm Fat and It Depresses Me" caftans and ugly pantsuits, and blushing when Steve Martin said "Jack Nicholson got into a hot tub with Kathy Bates, but then, who hasn't?"
Loved: Jennifer Connelly. She's definitely gained some weight back (can't see all gross those Skeletor bones just beneath her collarbone anymore) and looked just incredibly beautiful.
Worst hair: Sissy Spacek. I know she's anti-glamour and all, but honey, you are not taking out the wash to hang on the line.
Total disconnect: Diane Lane. Loved her dress until I saw that the pretty beaded/tulle top was connected to a featherbed explosion below.
F@#$%ng overrated: Renee Zellweger. What is all the fuss about?
Best speech: Peter O'Toole. A total gentleman, witty and kind. Nicole Kidman: incoherent but sweetly well-meaning.
Should be Taken Out and Shot: Eminem's cowriter for best song. He looked like Slash circa 1986 at the MTV awards. Have some dignity, you skank.

Musicked off, too. I seemed they struck up the "your time is up" tune a little fast. What made it worse was that the speech wasn't just about the war. The rant started with questioning the "fictitious" presidency of Bush, which is kind of a two-years-ago issue now.
Steve Martin's line about it was pretty good. "The teamsters are now helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo."

Agree with most things posted already... My noms follow --
worst dress -- Queen Latifah. The dress she wore during the song number was great. Her other one (while seated) was horrid. Never saw her standing up in it, but while seated it made her look like a whale. Large breasts should be accentuated in a good way, not covered with a burlap sack. Sad after a great Golden Globes appearance.
worst earrings -- Julianne Moore. She always does those big earrings that look like hangers. Hate them. Always have. I'm also coming out as a non-fan of the dark green on redhead look she always does. Works for some, but not for her OMHO.
worst speech -- Michael Moore. But we all knew it was coming.
best dress -- Catherine Zeta Jones. She looked great! Nicole also looked good in my opinion. Liked Halle's dress but I would have LOVED it in a different color (why so much gold/beige? it never shows up well on tv).
worst hair -- Harrison Ford. He looked like a deranged madman who is thinning up front. Maybe his stylist left town on vaca last week? Needed a cut. Bad.

Interesting point about the Michael Moore speech.
According to a Times article in this morning's paper, he gave a longer version of the same speech the night before at the Independent Spirit Awards. The Times reports that he was widely cheered.
What I hated the most about the speech was that he had all of the other documentary filmakers up there purporting to support his crazy rantings. Assuming the Times is correct, they knew exactly what he would say and had no reason to look embarrassed or shocked, as they did.

She's never really been a skeletor (save last year.)
Renee Z. -- totally agree. I loved her dress, but GEEZ -- where did her boobs go?
Nicole K. -- I think she rocks and that she's unbelievable beautiful. I missed her speech, though. Was that her daughter sitting behind her?

Halle Berry looked stunning, as usual. And stunned. I wouldn't have been surprised if she had slugged Adrien Brody if he'd gone on for another second, though to his credit, how many chances is he gonna have to snog Halle Berry like that again?
Julie Andrews has the best plastic surgeon in Hollywood. The tell tale singns of aging simply weren't there. She looked great.
Meryl Streep sounded like she was on something, but she looked good, and she seemed gracious enough when she lost her awards.
Didn't it seem like everyone who won for Chicago had to walk a guantlet? Renee didn't spend too much time talking to people, and I wonder why she backed out of performing the duet, though I loved the pairing of Queen Latifa and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Colin Farrel cracked me up, and he's rapidly getting higher status on my laminated list.
Someone needs to show the puffy shirt episode of Sienfeld to Sean Connery. At the very least, he should have followed through with the kilt.
Dianne Lane looked radiant, and I'm amazed that the color of her dress didn't wash her out.
Chris Cooper's acceptance was sweet. I've always liked him.
I was amazed at Kate Hudson's ability to pull something off that looked absolutely great. Usually her outfits are overly odd, but last night she looked stunning.
Queen Latifah been wearing that same shade of blue / silver to a couple of these things, and she looks good in the color, but the suit at the GG's was much better. The dress that she wore to sing in was much better fro her.
Anyone notice that Ben Affleck's been working on his spanish pronunciation? His woman's dress reminded me of some from a few decades back. Or perhaps a toga party.
Salma Hayek seemed pretty pleased when her movie won two awards, but I honestly thought that she was going to slug the winners of the best foreign film award. Mexico probably would have had a better chance in that category if Y Tu Mama Tambien had been nominated instead. She looked much better in the red dress she wore to the Golden Globes.
Jennifer Connelly's pregnancy gear was much less inspired than Catherine Zeta Jones'.
Calista Flockhart still annoys me, so I can't be objective about what she wears or does. And Harrison Ford's hair was wrong.
Daniel Day Lewis looked as relaxed as I've ever seen him at one of these things, but the grey sort of made him look ill.
Jennifer Gardener's straps looked too tight on an otherwise OK outfit.
Was Sean Astin the ONLY person from Lord of the Rings present?
Richard Gere looked delighted to be there despite his lack of nomination. Carey Lowell looked pissed off half the time the camera was on her though.
Ed Harris is letting the aging process happen.
Cameron Diaz needed to do something to her hair. Her dress was unremarkable.
The red dress that Marcia Gay Hardin wore two years ago was much better than the aqua blue strapless dress she wore last night.
Julianne Moore looked great in the green, and she had a sort of befuddled and amazed look on her face all night long.
Nicole Kidman's dress was ok, and she looked nice throughout the evening, but she really should have thought a little bit more about what she was going to say before she got up there. Chris Cooper and Adrian Brody were also emotional, but they were able to sort of be coherent.
The awards that amazed me the most were to Polanski, Eminem and Moore. I saw Bolwing for Columbine, and I enjoyed it, and anyone who knew that Moore was in the building knew that he'd make comments like he did. I haven't seen the Pianist, but I really have enjoyed the last few movies that Polanski has done over the years. And I just assumed that U2 would get the award.

It was Nicole's daughter behind her, and Nicole said in her speech how she was glad she won so her Mom and daughter could be proud of her. Weren't they already you'd think?
Oops, didn't realize Jennifer Connelly was pregnant. It agrees with her. Maybe Renee Zellweger will get knocked up, start eating again and get her breasts back in time for the next award show.
Calista Flockhart--needs to be force-fed. She looks like her neck and torso are going to snap under the weight of her big head. If I were Harrison Ford I'd be terrified of crushing her during sex and never touch her.

I don't think his speech is so easily dismissed as "crazy rantings." I agree that last night was neither the time nor the place. But I never understand why people can't express the opinion that they are against the war without it being read as insane or unsupportive of the troops that are in harm's way. In fact, asking them to be brought back seems to me to be as supportive of the value of their lives as it gets. Unrealistic, yez. But I don't think being against the war necessarily means you don't support the troops in harm's way.
Now, don't misunderstand me. Moore went off on too big a political tangent, bringing in the election results, etc. But saying the war is being fought for "fictitious reasons" isn't really that big a statement. I'm guessing people were more upset with the timing and forum. Although, maybe I'm just mistaken.
On a personal note, I don't know where I stand on this war. I think Bush has done a lousy job explaining why we need to fight this war. If it's because Saddam can deliver weapons of mass destruction that he has stockpiled somewhere, he hasn't done a very good job of proving that he has such weapons or can deliver them. If it's because he's on the verge of gaining nuclear capabilities, he hasn't done a very good job of establishing that either. [On a side note, I remembered hearing someone say that nukes (in any significant stage of development) couldn't be hidden as they can be detected from space. Am I mistaken? If this is actually the case, how hard could it be to take out a facility that held them whenever anyone got close?] He constantly implies or says outright that Saddam is connected to Bin Laden, but I haven't really seen them draw a distinct connection there either.
So, the question is, do I have enough faith in Bush and his administration to trust that they have all this information? Is the reason why they haven't pointed to it because sharing the information in this manner would be detrimental to our intelligence efforts? Governments shouldn't have to be open with absolutely everything. And I think people these days expect access to too much. Hell, our generals go on tv and tell everyone in the world exactly what they're doing and planning (if I were president, I would put a stop to that quick fast).
My problem is I don't have enough faith in Bush. I don't think he's that bright. I think he is incapable of complex negotiation and diplomacy. I think he puts all of his faith in his advisors and probably favors being "tough," so puts more faith in his military advisors than anyone else.
So, I guess you can judge me on being wishy washy on this war. I hate that American servicemen are being killed and wounded. I hate that civilians will be killed and wounded. But, if it turns out that Saddam has taken significant steps toward stockpiling and/or delivering chemical, biological or nuclear weapons to the US or other important oil-rich countries and we go in there and find significant evidence that he has, then you're damn right we were right to start the war. However, I suspect what's going to happen is that we'll end up destroying everything and then we'll say something like, "well, it would have been here, here, here and here, but we obliterated all that shit, so we'll bend over and you can start kissing our asses now." In that case, I'll still feel wishy washy.

Oh, the stress of the Oscars. The poor dear. Putting on the right dress that some superdesigner made and the right zillion dollar jewels so ou can sit in a chair and watch all the stars and maybe accept an award and then go out and party. Life is tough, isnt it?
Anyway. I thought she looked like shit last night. THough I saw her for a half second. Maybe if she smiled more or something. She just looked like two hairy eyebrows and a scowl.
Renee looks like a kewpie doll with a delightful downhome personality. THats her appeal. She needs to get past the eating disorder though. Maybe she is stressed about the Oscars?

Well, I don't know -- I imagine it might be kind of stressful getting up live in front of a huge audience like that, and getting jitters about winning, and at the same time going through a traumatic (I assume) life-changing event (the long-time boyfriend breakup business) -- I don't know (and I'd wager you don't know either.) Wha-evah...
My only point was she'd never really been a skeletor in the past, so unlike some other "amazing disappearing actresses" (see, e.g. Renee Z., Brittany Murphy - YIKES!! and Christina Ricci), I think with her it may have just been a phase. But, I could be wrong, maybe after she has this baby, she'll go back to being a skeletor.
I do not at all see the appeal of Renee Z. The only thing I've ever liked her in was Bridget Jones's Diary. Her eyes are lost in her face. I didn't see Chicago, though -- maybe she was appealing in that.

Remember that CHristina Ricci,Renee and lets go with Jennifer Aniston since I dont the Brittany Murphy oeuvre didnt used to be skeletors either. I think this has more to do with a race to the bottom type thing brought on by seeing Calista Flockhart. People suddenly felt fat or learned diet tips or thought it was a trend or somethning, and Connely probably jumped on that bandwagon. Christian Ricci has admitted as such.
I just saw a pic of COnnelly- she looked better. Beautiful skin assuming it isnt all baseface, but you could scrape such of that shit on her eyes off.
and, having read Kate Hudson looked fab but not havin gseen her, I went looking for her pic. Found one on E. I cant cut and paste pics but you can probably find it. She looks like she is in her forties. Bizarre. Also kinda looks like Ellen Barkin. I suspect that her beauty may have peaked in Alnost Famous and the tied in VanityFair spread.

While this dude is not "conventionally handsome" I suppose, he has an interesting face -- and I though he was so charming last night, he seemed very sweet. I didn't see the movie, but heard a snippet of an interview with him where I got the impression that it was actually he playing the piano in the movie. What a renaissance man!
(And I notice he took every opportunity to kiss the pretty girls -- no dummy, he!)

She did fine in Chicago (including one *incredibly* well-done number as a Charlie McCarthy-like dummy to Richard Gere's Edgar Bergen), though I liked CZJ much better.
However, thanks to digital cable, I have seen Jerry Maguire approximately seventeen times in the last 4 days (never all at once, of course). She was very good in that, and she has never looked better than she does in that flick as the accountant who loves Tom. She had me at hello. Sniff.

At least Kate Hudson avoided the bizarro Cher-reject fringed capelet thing she wore recently. If she could only get her scuzzy rock-star husband to trim the Grizzly Adams beard (and I love the Black Crowes), she could almost be ready to go outside.
I've only ever seen one expression on Renee Zellweger--the eyeliner-slits-for-eyes and puffy-bright-red-lips-pursed-tightly-together thing--in every magazine photo, on every red carpet, in every role. She is indeed very cute, except for the new Skeletor problem, but as was once said of Katherine Hepburn, her acting range "runs the gamut from A to B."
