I take it back though, men do have relevance. If and when I decide to have a child I'll need to get some sperm from somewhere. But that shouldn't take very long. Such a fertilization would only result in girl babies as two females lack Y chromosomes, which I guess from a lesbian point of view is not a bad thing.
I know you're half-joking about this, but you're right, they have looked into this.
Your science lesson for the day is:
Fertilizing one egg with another will currently not work because certain genes are "imprinted". I.e., even though we each get a copy of each gene from mom and dad (except for the XY combo men get), sometimes only dad's copy gets used and sometimes only mom's copy gets used. Thus, if there are no "dad genes" there will be no baby.
