MR: Can't one or the other partner deduct the kids as a dependent regardless of marriage?
[ETA]: I always had some respect for the couple we read about in tax law that got divorced every Dec. 31 and remarried every Jan. 1 just so they could file as unmarried.

AAAAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK. I know I should stp, but I can't stand it. Even if Rosie and whoever are determined to be legally married under CA state law, they can't file as married for federal tax purposes because of the Defense of Marriage Act. Not married for federal law purposes.
