Because it's not going to fail and they're going to get at least some of the control over women's bodies that they've craved.
The best case scenario for reproductive rights out of the supreme court is that Roe is nominally upheld but the states are given broad leeway to regulate it more or less out of existence (i.e., available only to rich white women). And Roe being outright overturned is significantly more likely than maintaining the status quo.
I hope you're right that it has big political consequences, though.
