How do these compare on average to previous years? Any idea what percentage of reduction (if any -- I have to assume given the economy, there is one) these salaries represent relative to last year or 2001? Inquiring and (yet to be employed) minds want to know.

Well, as compared to 2002, the numbers are going down.

I don't have access to the affiliates report, so I can't give you an answer Doll. You may want to check with the boss upstairs.

There is pretty much a decrease in average salary across the board from 2002.
According to the report, the salary represents "starting compensation level, excluding bonuses and other incentives"
It does not say exactly how the calculated but I think it reasonable to assume that you simply need to find the midpoint between the high and the low to find the average salary in any given location.
The reduction in the average from 2002-2003 ranges from a high of 9.1% for senior associates in large firms to a low of 3.6% for a first year associate in a small firm. There were increases for first year associates in small firms of about 2%.

so its safe to say that small law attorneys in ohio are really suffering given that salary range. especially if they went to one of the private schools in state. ouch.
hopefully the quality of life makes up for it
