Brown McCarroll Soft Layoffs?

Several Brown McCarroll associates have been told to begin looking elsewhere. The firm will announce that this is performance-related, if they announce anything at all.

The firm has been in difficulty for the past year as their litigation business slipped. Clients demanded they hire a top-notch litigator or else they'd jump. They pursued Tom Watkins, who said he wouldn't come without his firm. That acquisition has been bad for the former H&W lawyers. Some of them are chafing under the dictatory leadership and the stupid administrative rules and actively seeking other places to land.

In other BMcC news, it discontinued its summer associate program completely. It will only hire laterals.

Have they announced this publicly?

Sounds like it's performance-related on the partnership level. I have not heard of litigation slacking off in other firms.
