I was a competitive runner, so I acknowledge that is slow for a competitive runner. Like walking, fast walking, but for the average person, or even the average fit person, I don't think that is so slow.

For example:

Extrapolating a 4:21 half to a 5k (double for a mile time and add 10 seconds per mile to account for the distant differential between one mile and 5k) is an 8:50. Below are the links for the recent Nike Run Hit Wonder 5K race in LA, which seems like a good representative sample of the mass of runners, from competitive through casual joggers. Out of 4,467 participants, only 845 ran faster than an 8:50 pace (that's 18%). Of women 25-29, my first wife's age group when we were married, out of 760 runners, only 78 ran faster than an 8:50 pace (10.3%). And LA is a fitter city than many.

Overall

women 25-29

Of course my PR is 16:28, which is a 5:16 pace and would have netted me 7th OA, about 4 places ahead of Coltrane. No offence.
