None of it's any more likely than anything else. It's just that most people can't look out there and admit to themselves, "I don't know, and I won't know."
Everybody (particularly in the US) wants a narrative. Comfort, etc. Some take it in science, some in religion. Personally, I'm fine with ignorance on this. Why drive yourself nuts. Seems, to me at least, time better spent masturbating.
