So I think it's pretty clear that I'm no fan of Reagan (coughtraitorcough), but this is a pretty amazing quote. You've got to hand to him, he had some good speech writers.
Which turns me to the Bush ad I saw this morning on CNN, lambasting Kerry for (HORROR!) wanting to repeal certain parts of the Patriot Act, including (as mentioned specifically in the ad) wiretaps, supoena powers and surveillance. Now I realize that I'm a dyed in the wool liberal, but isn't this ad a bit of a gamble? Are conservatives who are a little afraid of the coming police state likely to think a vote for Kerry is a vote against increased wiretaps, subpoena powers and surveillance, all committed by the jack booted thugs that are federal law enforcement?
I look at that ad and say to myself, not "that's a clear distortion" as I normally do (being a liberal and all), but rather "Kerry's right." That seems like a poor ad.
