My assertion was not a judgment statement. Parenting presents a lot of tough choices, people handle them in different ways and other than easy examples (like shackling your kid in the basement with a ball gag) I don't judge other parents. I was just saying what my choice is.

I also don't believe in corporal punishment, but I know plenty of fine parents (including mine) who do or did.
