And NotBob, if you ever compare Sleater-Kinney to the Bangles again, I am going to e-mail the early-90s version of Kathleen Hanna and tell her that you called Liz Phair a riot grrrl.

funny story disguised as a request for advice

a woman i know does "photo montages." she takes a hundred or so photos and video and put music to it and creates the films shown at bar/bat mitzvahs.

a somewhat distant old friend sent the 100 pictures selected for her younger son's video.

among them is a picture shot in some living room that takes in two chairs with an older couple in them and a couch. on the couch is the older son, stark naked with pecked clearly shown. he is about 8. the younger brother has his back to the camera, and in standing over his brother in underwear.

the thing is, a mom is supposed to select the pictures that best highlight the child. this picture, at best, highlights the older son. AND actually raises questions about what sort of odd rituals these people might be doing.

she choose to not include the shot, and the mom did not ask about it.

we are debating whether to ask the mom about the shot. thoughts?

translation: I had a monster crush on Siobhan until I saw the Really saying something video, with Neville Staple hanging all over her. the band has been dead to me since.

You have a long memory (although I think that I actually said it about someone even less riot grrrl-y than Liz Phair).

For the record, "SK approximates the Bangles or Go-Go's" was Diane's comparison, not mine. Please update your records accordingly.

Too late. In fact, the official record has you down as saying, "The Bangles were like an earlier, harder-edged version of Sleater-Kinney." Which I really cannot fucking believe you said. I mean, seriously . . . .

Perhaps it is perfect California freeway music.

Hank III is awesome.

You know, no matter how hard you try, you're gonna end up listening to piano concertos and drinking sherry in the end. You might as well speed it up and save yourself the angst of the Journey.

I have nothing against piano concertos or sherry. But I refuse to believe that nostalgia for 80s girl groups and wine coolers is part of the journey. Or Journey.
