Tailgating (the 3 times I've done it) is fun. But I would much rather watch a football game on tv. I want all the angles and I want all the replays. And it's so much warmer curled up in the princess bed.

I once went to an FSU (when they were #1), Virginia game in Virgina (I think they were ranked 20-something) and sat on a hill behind one of the end zones. Anyway, UVA was up* by more than 3 with a minute left and FSU had driven close to the goal on the other side of the field. UVA had a brilliant goal line stand and on the last play, they stuffed FSU and the game was over. We couldn't see a fucking thing, but everyone ran onto the field before the play was even over anyway and started celebrating. Great game to go to, but I would have liked to have seen the stop, which was supposedly like an inch away from being a touchdown.

Basketball games with halfway decent seats are fun. It is amazing to see those fucking guys move up close. They are freaks. I love baseball games in nice weather. And hockey is just as boring in real life as it is on tv. Two breaks? What sense does that make?

*Tiki Barber had like 1,000 yards rushing and Ronde Barber had at least one pick, I think.

So... just how weird does that make me? Please compare me only to all you freaks as a group, not the general population.
We used the vows from the Book of Common Prayer (the ones you always hear on soap operas, i.e. "in sickness and in health"). We did so because neither of us had ever been to a wedding where the vows given surpassed the old-fashioned BCP vows in eloquence or sentiment, or the simple power of a person saying "I do." And we still haven't.

I assume you would prefer versions with fewer references to Jesus, but I fully support the idea of people giving the same vows other people give, and the acknowlegment that love poetry is not easily composed by amateurs whose only qualification is that they are presently under the influence of love.

Um... no. I didn't ask for help writing vows, I was just taking the group's temperature on how bizarre it is for me not to want to read my own vows.

It's not the writing that's hard, it's the reading it in front of other people! Eek!

And Coltrane -- my running is so pathetic right now. But my PRs are all post-children. So... here's hoping!

My husband-to-be is a devoted runner. In his first marathon, with no marathon-specific training, he finished in 3:09. Hey -- these vows could write themselves!

Just make sure when you do the "honor" thing in those vows you remember the exception for internet boyfriends. And girlfriends. That's key.

Too right.

I can't improve upon what's there. And yes, we will just delete the references to Jesus. Except that's my new husband's name.

College tailgating is great, in part because it's amusing to see the investments that alumni put into it.

At UGA, there's almost zero meaningful parking next to the stadium, which is in the center of campus. The more enthusiastic alumni would simply pull up in the RV and camp out on the lawn of the English building.

On Wednesday.

At USC (South Carolina), there are train tracks that go right by the stadium. So the well-heeled can rent a fully-outfitted train car for your party. Pull up, eat, booze, walk over to the stadium, walk back, eat, booze, let train pull you away. Might be the only impressive thing in all of Columbia.

I am here and have already prepared draft vows. Well, they are not traditional vows, really. In fact, I am not sure I would even characterize them as vows. They are more along the lines of a choral tribute to me. I assume you are going to have a choir? I could rewrite it for a solo perfomer, but I think a lot of the beauty is in the call-and-response sections. But, you know, it's your wedding and all . . .

Oh great, now you tell me. I am willing to drop in a reference to your husband-to-be's running prowess if you want.

I always read "BCP" as birth control pill.

Which made me initially think that those must have been some interesting vows.

It doesn't top Coltrane, but I'm still trying to figure out what douche wears a Yankees jersey to a Red Sox-O's game, as I saw a couple weeks ago. Why are you even there?

You mean so that we don't need to honor internet boyfriends and girlfriends? That does seem key.

It's a good thing there's a fellow bumpkin like you to remind me of these things.
