I think his screen name is too long for the space allotted on certain browsers.

You can give me your response publicly. I think there's a Marriott across the street from the Wayne County courthouse, right?

Right. My screen name hits the cervix of some browsers.

I need help. Do people leave money for a maid when checking out of a hotel? I checked out of an expensive place and left nothing. i never leave anything. But I read that some maid tip is proper.

Who gives maid tips and how much?
I leave a buck or two a night. If the maid doesn't do a good job (e.g., doesn't empty wastebasket or leaves towels on floor), I leave less. If I come in at night and find that, along with turndown, the staff has filled the ice bucket and placed the tv listing conveniently on the bedside table, I tip extra.

Yeah, but you're liable to get a disease from the ones it works on.

Agreed (except at the huge places, like Atlantis where they charge you a service fee).

I was talking to the bartenders in Cabo about the place I was staying and they were saying that the maids and other general non-desk type staff get paid dollars a day and are extremely lucky to have the jobs and leave their families elsewhere in Mexico to perform them or travel great distances every day. May be a load of crap to get me to tip more, but it was pretty effective.

And when they leave a leg of mutton, a 40, and a quart of baby oil, you drop a $20

I don't understand this. The bartender tells you that the maids are extremely lucky just to have the job. Why would you need to tip them more? They are already extremely lucky. They probably don't even have the emotional capacity to deal with the excess of good fortune that your five-spot would provide them.

Not to mention the fact that they would probably invest it unwisely. Thurgreed would be doing them a favor by sparing them that heartbreaking experience.

Exactly. Those are the type of people who are still looking for opportunities in sub-prime mortgage investment vehicles.

Or rolling over their ARMS into a fixed subprime mortgage at a higher rate.
