I can't remember the author[ess] of Drinking: A Love Story (Katherine something?), but that book was really much more focused on her recovery from the addiction, without the "side story". It was good in its own way, just different.
Caroline Knapp. I am pretty sure that paigow recommended her.

Damn morning meetings keeping me away from the live internet radio feed. It's OLN for me again tonight. I would like to know why the OLN picture on Comcast is so crappy. I've called them, but the guy in India who answered the phone couldn't help me.

Substitute "invented" for "recommended" and you're exactly right.

There's a Comcast?!?! Shit. I've been listening to the audio only. It's better than reading those crapola typed updates, but I wish I had known about the Comcast all week. Shitfuckdamn.

I agree that Sedaris and Burroughs have a similar writing style. Each has the ability to make you laugh until your stomach hurts, and then move you to tears, within the space of a page or two.

The short story by Sedaris called "Six to Eight Black Men" doesn't have any moments of pathos that I've been trying (most pathetically ) to describe, but is perhaps the funniest thing I've read in years, if not ever. He is so brilliant.
Yes and yes. I find Sedaris funnier and Burroughs more poignent. Similar styles though.

"Six to Eight Black Men" is hysterical. And sort of reminded me of his Christmas elf story from Holidays on Ice. The whole new book did not disappoint (other than you wanted 200 to 400 more pages of it). Makes you wonder how he keeps coming up with this stuff.

Also, I liked the part in the current book where he talked about how his family members all avoid him now because they are scared of what he will write about them next. Then he proceeded to make his youngest sister sound absolutely insane.

I wasn't paying attention, but now I must say I am impressed. I usually need at least 20 minutes of recovery time.

You're KIDDING?!?!

Maybe I don't know what Comcast is. I assumed it was a video feed accessible on the internet. Is that wrong? If that's not wrong, I don't understand your comment.

My Other News Source

realityblurred uses "asshat" in a story:

Quote:
Not that we needed a reason to make the people who work on local news stations wear scarlet As for "asshat," but here comes more evidence that they're working overtime to freak us out with useless non-news. CBS News 5 in Phoenix, KPHO, reports on, and I quote, "some scoop on the upcoming season" of Survivor Vanuatu, which debuts Sept. 16. While that sounds like they actually have some real news to report, they instead say that "contestants may be in for the most dangerous conditions ever seen on the show." Is there an outbreak of typhoid fever? A radiocative lizard roaming around? Not quite. Here's the shocking news: "The Islands of Vanuatu are mostly un-inhabited. They are full of active volcanos. And if that's not enough--they're rumbling with earthquakes. The latest one measured 5.7 on the Richter scale." Where were they when we needed to know that the Pearl Islands were surrounded on all sides by water, which is the substance people are very likely to drown in!
Sounds like a story for Channel 4 news with Ron Burgandy!

Comcast is my local cable provider. I haven't found a live video feed on the internet, just the audio.
