Don't see why not, or for that matter a sign requiring a minimum purchase of two bottles. FWIW, I believe the law exempts grocery stores.

Nope. But clearly their must be a solution to protect us poor, oppressed snobs. How realistic is it for someone to repeatedly scrounge up $12.49 in change for a bottle of something from Belgium?

So basically what you'd do is put a price floor on large, single serve bottles? Because the alternative is simply to say "no sales to homeless-looking people".

Yup. The agreement described in the article seemed reasonable. No single sales under $4.99 or something like that.

funny. there was a liquor store at 21st and Penn called Giley's. I went in after school one night because I was having a party and Va. people buy their booze in DC. So I picked out a vodka and some other things, and I knew i needed to get scotch. I was not a scotch drinker and asked for a rec. the guy said "Giley's house brand is great. we private label over stock from the big brands."

I knew enough about scotch to know it is the ultimate brand sensitive drink so I said "hmmm, I'd have to taste it before i could trust that," thinking that would end it. instead the guy pulled an open bottle from under the counter and poured me a shot.

that led to every friday going there after class and feigning ignorance, "Old Bushmills? what is that?"

I always got a free shot. what was weird was that at the time the neighborhood was heavy homeless, with tons living just up the street a few blocks. I wasn't particularly well-dressed so I'm not sure how they filtered their clients for free booze worthiness.

Congress Acts to Ban Pet Chimps

A week after a woman lay in critical condition after being mauled by a pet chimpanzee, the Captive Primate Safety Act passed bya 323-95 voted, with 93 Republicans in opposition.

The act would apply to the sale and transport of monkeys, great apes, lemurs, etc. The measure "makes it unlawful for a person to sell or purchase a live animal of any prohibited wildlife species in interstate or foreign commerce," according to a Library of Congress summary.

Flinty, this is going to cause some real problems in our talks with Vivid for the upcoming production of The Bitches Wail for Prehensile Tails, but really it's just a matter of being creative. Under my new plan, Vivid won't "own" you anymore, but it will be something of a short-term leasing arrangement.

We systematically criminalize all the victimless forms of eccentricity, and then when someone does something craaaaazy, like kidnap the neighbor's kid and eat his eyeballs, we have the other neighbor on camera saying, "Wow, he always seemed like a normal guy -- never saw this coming."

I wish the legislature would think more strategically about such things.
