Indeed. I went down to the docks today to pay my respects. And downed a couple of pints of Jolly Roger Christmas Ale (the Maritime Pacific brew pub is nearby) to dull the pain of the loss.

Discovery, obviously, has been on top of this story for the last few weeks. They were in the middle of shooting. I wonder if the family will want to continue with the season. I know that they were really grateful for the Discovery cameraman two years ago, when Phil got the blood clot in his lung and the cameraman pretty much kept an eye on him until they could get him to harbor.

That whole affair was hard to watch but I was so happy it turned out OK. Now this puts a bad ending to what was a decent enough story. He was one of my favorite captains. Total jerk and yet the biggest softie out there. Without him the Hansen's are the only story left watching on that show.

It's not surprising, though. I don't think he changed a single thing about his lifestyle, and he was still smoking like a chimney. Still, it's sad.
I'm sure that this season will be interesting one from a drama perspective, given Phil's death. I gather that it's a pretty tight knit group of people up there, and everyone is going to be effected. The Discovery producers aren't going to have to do anything to get reactions from everyone else.

Agreed. It is sad when people survive a close call and then do nothing to prevent another. On TV or in your own family.
