LWK cross-post

I listened this morning as a smaller Slothrop explained the following to a small but larger Slothrop in the back seat:

"Namaste" means I respect you and you respect me. And it means no arguing, and no fighting, and no yelling.

Only I think he was saying it with a "d" instead of a "t." The small but larger Slothrop asked when Namas Day is.

It would save Ironweed an arduous mental step if you just told Ironweed to never listen to him.

A lot of kids from my high school did Amigos de las Americas when we were in school, and I'm pretty sure that my school still encourages their students to go. Most of the people who did it came back pretty inspired by the whole thing. They dug a lot of ditches and helped kids learn to brush their teeth. And their spanish was a lot better when they came back.

hmmm, i think the child in question is more a "2 weeks of doing good, 2 weeks of adventure travel" kid than an "8 weeks of doing good" kid.

i keep telling her there's enough wrong here in america if she wants to help-

  • Ed McMahon turns rapper

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Ed McMahon has an unexpected new job title: rapper.

The 85-year-old former "Tonight Show" sidekick will star in two viral rap videos for FreeCreditReport.com, a financial Web site owned by credit bureau Experian.

The videos feature McMahon wearing a tracksuit, being chauffeured around Los Angeles in a Cadillac Escalade golf cart and waxing lyrical about his very public financial troubles.

The videos will appear online in October.

In the first video, McMahon -- who once pitched the American Family Publishing sweepstakes -- and a bodyguard are cruising through a neighborhood looking for sweepstakes winners to ask for some money back.

If it gets them to go into the Peace Corps for real later, I'm all for it.

At some point in my life I'm going to join the Peace Corps. One of the very few regrets I have in my life is not joining up between college and law school.

she may well end up there, but my immediate question is whether the particular program is a con that might turn her off from such a future.

RT, my biggest regret is that I chickened out of spending my college junior year in Nagoya Japan. Mostly I would have learned the language. an American patent lawyer being fluent in Japan would have really helped with my career.

of course, if I had changed what i did i likely would never have ended up as a patent lawyer.

Go for it! The only thing is you can't have minor children. I've even heard of people who took a leave of absence from their day job to do it, so they wouldn't have to wait until retirement age.

A good friend of mine runs their website and marketing. She sends me material all the time.
