He's the type of person that ruins the profession for normal people. If he sets the bar, what normal person wants to jump over it?

2. Worse is we know he's not the exception. He may not be the majority (although he may), but certainly he represents a sizable chunk, at least relative to certain types of firms/areas of practice. And what comes around goes around, i.e. he's training his young charges or senior charges to train their mid level charages to train their young charges to be overworking maniacs too.
I hung out with a gaggle of business guys/Wharton MBAs a few weekends ago at a male bonding retreat in the Catskills. Median income was probably $700k. When we discussed work and hours etc they all laughed at and berated me. Law sucks.

I know median means nothing. That aside, I don't really believe anyone earning $700k or more is working short hours, unless they're semi-retired or a professional athlete. The hours may be less painful or more predictable. But I'm pretty sure we'd all know about a 9-6 job that paid so much.

I am not saying 9-6 gigs (although those exist, quick eg, I knew traders in Chicago who made up past $500K and they were done earlier than 6), but more control over their lives/schedules, i.e. more qol.

Yes. That's not so bad. It's not like you are working on the weekends. At least the one's I knew.
And they occassionally got to punch other traders that they didn't like and the only penalty was they had to pay a fine. Like $10k. I'd pay $10K to punch some of my co-workers.
