My daughters are getting cans of mace to carry with them when I go home tonight. Then those assholes will listen.

Doesn't Thurgreed think of "somewhat assholish" as a complement?
ETA: More seriously, my response to you was also somewhat unfair. I take you (and Beyerstein and Fugee) to be saying that a pass in an elevator in a foreign country at 4 am is inherently somewhat coercive. Point taken. But I still think that it was their first communication is essential context for how that relates to her larger point

Once again, I return to the subjective nature of this "rule." Not all women feel this way. Some women who feel this way, feel this way about certain men, exempting others. What is the time cut-off? I'm sure some women are perfectly comfortable being hit on at 10:00 pm--do we stop at midnight? One am? Does it only count in 3 star hotels and below? Only if you're both American and you're in a foreign country?
|
Exactly. Does it apply on alternate Thursdays? How does one account for daylight savings time? What if you're double-parked outside? There is just so much we do not know!!!

Don't forget--while it doesn't apply in the Watson situation--how does one know if the women is in a foreign country? Or maybe she has dual citizenship?

True enough. There must be a full inquiry before this Rule is adopted, or maybe it's just a case of a woman feeling creeped-out by a chancer in a Dublin lift and complaining about it on the internet, leading to much sputtering indignation on the part of people who, if they gave it a moment's thought and aren't totally in the grip of Aspergers Syndrome, can pretty much figure out when and where they've crossed the line from Late Night Thurgreedian Suavosity In Enclosed Spaces to drooling jackass inviting a lady to see his etchings.

These are skeptics we are talking about. And me. So yeah, Aspergers all around.
I actually met a kid who has been diagnosed with it the other day, which I think was a first for me. Seemed to do alright.

I know. That shit used to mean something, but now the psychs are handing those diagnoses out like candy. It's like grade inflation. Let's get back to the good old days when "Adjustment Reaction of Childhood/Adolescence" was all you got to work with.

Then you can get you kid an IEP. I'm a little surprised that Christie hasn't tried to ban Aspies from the Garden State to cut education costs--must me he is one.

Can it make an elevator? Because I'm thinking we could be doing some role-play to work through, you know, issues.

So is Lindsay Beyerstein, and she agrees.

She should be thankful anyone hit on her at all. I applaud her website and views on religion, but other than that, she seems like a humorless, self-important pain the ass with grossly outsized opinion of her attractiveness.
It is entirely possible that, once that man sobered up, coffee'd be all he wanted (if it wasn't all he sought in the first place).

Netflix
This seems exceedingly unwise. Well, at least if it's true that as reported Netflix wants people to move away from discs and toward streaming. Given that limited selection available to stream, aren't a lot of people going to pick discs only?
Then again, I probably won't, but I might give it up all together. With all that you can stream from your cable company and from HBO and the like, I'm not using it all that much anymore.
