A good diner may rotate their selection, but they're only going to put out five or six pies a day. Because they make them themselves and serve them fresh. Even if their gravy might come out of a can.

Apparently, the mere mention of "pies" causes all of you to lose the ability to read.
"Pies and cakes." "Pies and cakes." Try getting lost somewhere in New Jersey, then pulling over at the first standalone diner you see. A fat guy in the velour sweatsuit is working the register, a dowdy waitress will call you "honey," and the display case will be loaded with pies and cakes (including cakes) that make you drool.

You need to spend more time in Joisey. Diners everywhere -- real ones. In my view, it's the sole redeeming quality of the entire state.

Philly:
ETA: Probably not "real" in terms of menu though.

Where's your site? And who you paying off to get the drive-thru approved?

Next Question
I was recently watching The Food Network and they had a list of the ten best sandwiches in the country (many of which I am dying to try). But they seemed to be more taken with the size of the sandwich than the quality. From your personal experience, what is the best sandwich you've ever had and where did you get it?
Best Sandwich Poll:
My favorite is Katz's pastrami on rye with swiss. Each sandwich is always as fresh as can be and it is quite simply one of the best things I've ever eaten. The pastrami is like butter, baby.

Plus, you have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters. And if you plan on using any cement in this building, I'm sure the Teamsters would like to have a little chat with you, and that'll cost you. Don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. And there's the long-term costs, such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the Boy Scouts.
