This strikes me as a cumbersome test.

Whether something has "intellectual merit" is subjective, and based upon one's IQ. In fact, due to overlap in IQ for the various posters, each of us would have a unique band of things we find to have intellectual merit. For most of the posters there would be things that are above one's head, and that one might just not "get." That catagory would not have real intellectual merit to such a person, yet might still fall within the band for another.

Another catagory found at the other extreme of each poster's* "band" would be too dumb to be thought provoking to some. Again, others might find this catagory challenging**.

What yardstick to use?

*Each, save the dumbest of course.

**GGG, if you don't understand what I mean, PM me and I'll try and explain better.

This massive attempt to rewrite history would be funny if it weren't so sadly pathetic. It pains me to think that the mentality that can support such crap may well end up running this country in a few months.

Bush said, in the SOTU speech, that the brit's intelligence had indications that Iraq was trying to buy yellowcake in Africa.

Wilson published, in the oh-so-neutral NYT, that he was the one sent to investigate this, that he had found that it was untrue, that he had proof that the docs supporting this were forged, and that he had told Bush's people this ahead of the SOTU, but they ignored him, and thus Bush lied!

People wondered why such a known anti-war liberal Statie with no weapons-analysis experience would be chosen for such a job. My memory is fuzzy on this part, but it was posited that his likewise known antiwar wife, with some vague job at CIA, had recommended him for it. (Which, of course, starts to make it sound like a put-up job to begin with.) He says, no, no, wifey had NOTHING to do with this.

So, the commision hearings happen, and what do we find? Not only did he not find evidence to refute the brit's intell, but his findings tended to support it. (I'll remind you of the "goats or yellowcake?" posts from that era.)

Oh, and, yeah, wifey was the one who got him the gig.

And, that his "forged docs" story was . . . er . . . a mistake. (He must have had his timelines crossed, right?)

So, now, some of the more airheaded posters want to cry that the outing of Val was the REAL STORY, and anything about lyin' Joe is just a feint.

An attempt by State Department and CIA antiwar holdovers to bring down a president was just a diversion. The REAL NEWS was that the CIA employee had her job made public, after she used her position with that agency to undermine the current government policy.

Funny how the REAL STORY changes for you once your preferred original story goes to shit.
God, bilmore, this is total bullshit. Start getting your news from someplace other than NR or fox.. Wilson wasn't considered such a lefty when he voted fo Bush I over Clinton or when he stood up to SH face to face prior to the first Gulf War. This sort of smear is disgusting, and you've just proven SAM's point.

Terrorists hope to defeat Bush through Iraq violence

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

BAGHDAD — Leaders and supporters of the anti-U.S. insurgency say their attacks in recent weeks have a clear objective: The greater the violence, the greater the chances that President Bush will be defeated on Tuesday and the Americans will go home.

"If the U.S. Army suffered numerous humiliating losses, [Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John] Kerry would emerge as the superman of the American people," said Mohammad Amin Bashar, a leader of the Muslim Scholars Association, a hard-line clerical group that vocally supports the resistance.

WE WANT BUSH TO WIN

The statement said it supported U.S. President George W. Bush in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilisation."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

I think if Kerrey wins, it will harm the dems more in the long term than help them. Their hatred of Bush may ensure the WH stays in Rep hands for quite some time after Kerrey is a one-term prez. He and that nutcase he is married to are such unlikeable people.

Begala (I never watch the show -- maybe he's a dick too) wasn't the one attacking Stewart
Stewart comes out and launches into a diatribe. Carlson and Begala, both taken aback, try to restore some semblance of order to the show. Stewart continues - gets into it with Carlson. Begala sits there, presumably stumped as to what to do.

and saying how little fun it was going to be to have dinner with him (or something like that).
After several attempts to get Stewart to engage in the show's dynamic or to otherwise"be funny" (to which he replied "I'm not your monkey"), Carlson suggested the obvious - that having such a high-handed, lecturing, self-important twit scolding everyone at the dinner table would not be very much fun.

Quote:
Also, after the show, Tucker Carlson himself admitted that he was a dick a lot of the time.
Something Stewart, I'm sure, would never even think about his self-important ass.

BTW - does anyone else here recall what a pussy Stewart was - many years ago - when doing a show on MTV that purported to "retire" the song Ice Ice Baby. Much like Stewart on Crossfire, Rob "Vanilla" Ice Van Winkle decided to ignore the concept of the show and go off-script and trash the set. Stewart was speechless and almost looked like he was going to cry. Et tu, Jonnne.

Sure, let's go. Let's hear all about the yellowcake uranium that SH was attempting to import from Niger. You know, the nucular stuff that W mentioned in the SOTU address. This is the substance that we care about.

Listen you motherfucking jackass, do you really believe they prefer Bush to Kerrey? They hate Bush and know that if they endorse him, the average american is so stoopid that they will actually believe it.
