He infused most of the booze himself, made his own marichino cherries, made his own bitters, and otherwise did everything the hard way. He left a month or so ago to open his own bar, and it should be a pretty amazing place. It's goal is to banish forever the apple martini in Houston. It opens sometime this month.
So would you say that he's about fifteen years from licensing his name to national chain of airport bars, each offering travelers a menu of unique and tasty cocktails?

As distinguished from the Petrie Principle, which is that former USO dancer + black capris + ribbed turtleneck sweater = HOT.

Re: Congratulations Slave and Catrin!!!

Things that confuse me:

A sign on a commercial office building under construction that says it's a John Kors* "limited edition". What exactly is a "limited" edition building--there will only be two or three others exactly alike? If he can pull this off, it's genius, since most architects get to use the plans only once.

Things that worry me:

Seeing a taxi driver with an oxygen pipe in his nose. Do I really want him driving me somewhere? Does the oxygen tank have a fuel gauge on it as well?

*Not the actual name, because I forget, but some architect whose name is vaguely recognizable.

Wrong board, but what the hell.

This Xmas, I'm thinking of turning the Wee Slothrops into Wii Slothrops. We Slothrops own nary a video game device just now -- is that the right one to get? Any advice about the right software or hardware to go with it?

I hope so. I'm getting the same thing for the Gaplets.

I look forward to recommendations from people who actually know something about this, but my understanding is that you'll want to get a couple of extra remotes and nunchuks. Some Wii games suck, but apparently there are a number that are quite good. Anything Mario should work pretty well for the younger kids.

I expect Sidd to weigh in and explain that the Wii sucks because the platform offers neither Halo nor Ultimate Fighting.

We're considering the same. For us it's a Wii/no Wii option, as it seems the benefit of the Xbox 360 and PS3 are first person shooters and driving games with HD graphics, neither of which seem like necessary human experiences, while the playing of virtual bowling appears to be one of those things that will make you an oddball and social outcast if you haven't fully mastered it by 2011.

Plexico Burress

Last night, I turned on SportsCenter to watch the highlights of the wonderful, fantastic, might-as-well-have-been-our-playoff game I'd gone to see earlier that evening.

SportsCenter was obessed with Plexico Burress. Now, I understand that there'd be some bruhaha over a professional athlete who was stupid enough to shoot himself in the thigh. I also understand why the state of New York would be interested in indicting someone who violated handgun laws (and I was somewhat suprised to find that Texas has a stance on unlicensed weapons also...I just assume everyone's armed and no one officially cares.).

But why the perp walk? The man turned himself in. Obviously the only person he's a danger to is himself. This wasn't some great investigative coup by the New York Police Department.

It almost makes me want the grand jury not to indict him.

Dammit, we've been on Monday Night Football a grand total of once and we played really, really well, and I wanted to see highlights. Where else was I going to go?
