Yeah, I like pokerroom.
I am a lazy fucker today. I don't want to work. I think I'll screw around all day and surf the internet.

I wish. Tripled my fake money last night. Been doing a little reading lately and you'd be surprised what a little advanced strategy and reading of your opponents will do for you.
Hellmuth may be an ass, but his book has a lot of good insights in it. Perhaps most valuable for letting you know when to get out. Had a lady flop a straight flush last night, and I was about the only player to get out of the way...

I've found that watching Celebrity Poker is more helpful than watching WSOP b/c Phil Gordon tells the audience what a player should or should not do on every hand.
WSOP began last night and the Brit who won the first tourney couldn't have been luckier. He played terribly. I honestly think I'm a better player than him. Granted, he's 24 and has little experience, but he was calling and checking at all of the wrong times.

On Celebrity Poker they HAVE to tell you what a player should do because some of the "celebrities" suck so bad that they do stupid shit...

I did see the end of the WSOP episode last night ($2,000 buy-in no limit Hold 'Em) and, while the Brit did get lucky, the other guy blew it as well. Gave away a $250,000 chip lead and then busted out basically in two hands (probably more but it looked that way due to editing).
Who goes all-in when playing heads-up with a chip lead at the WSOP with a pair of 4's? He may play in Amarillo Slim's home game back in Texas, but he didn't learn that from Slim.
Also, I like the new innovation of the Rabbit Cam, where the dealer can now show the TV audience what card would have hit the board next if a player had not folded to end the hand...

Re: Celebrity Poker. True, they are stupid. But Phil isn't. And I think he's much more knowledgable than those jackass announcers on ESPN. Those guys sometimes say what the player should do. Phil does this too, but he also tells you WHY.

Maura Tierny is a better player than either of those two in last night's WSOP. What the fuck was that Brit doing calling the all-in before the river with the middle pair? Stupid. And the 4-4 all-in was just brutal. He had the chip lead for god sake. Show some fucking patience.
Love the rabbit cam.

When did Norman Chad decide that he had to try to be funny? I don't remember that from the 23,285 times I've seen the 2003 WSOP rerun on ESPN. The WPT announcers kick the ESPN announcers' ass.
Concur that the play in the Hold'Em episode was lousy. The stud episode was more entertaining, not b/c of the play (stud is really dull to watch), but b/c of Men Ngyuen. He should have his own show.

I didn't mean to break the board
Maybe mocking Norman Chad wasn't a good idea.
Anyway, even though this thread is more about playing poker than watching it, I just thought I'd add a comment on last night's ESPN WSOP show:
{minimal spoiler space for those with TiVo}
Gus Hansen may be an evil poker genius, but reraising all-in with 8-5 suited into two other players with more chips was a seriously stupid manuever.

WSOP is painful to listen to because of the announcers. Makes me long for the days of Gabe Kotter (ok, I don't remember his real last name). My ranking of poker show announcers (as if you all care):
1. Mike Sexton
2. Phil Gordon
3. Dave Foley
4. Vince Van Patten*
5. Other [not even worthy of me learning their names]
*Mr Man thinks he is creepy with all his Deliverence theme song reference. I tend to think he just isn't that bright. I'd probably rank him higher than Foley for his poker knowledge if the anti-Van Patten bias in my household wasn't so strong. I sorta like him. And I'm happy for him that he got this gig before poker took off. Otherwise it could have been Jeff Probst or someone sitting there instead.

I tried and I couldn't get into it on my home computer. Might be the computer's fault. I'll see if I can get it figured out. Otherwise, I'm a True Poker only girl.

It's web based. Might need flash installed. Pretty simple installation if you don't have it. Let me know if you need help.
Also, sometimes you try to connect and you'll get stuck. Their servers are slow sometimes when you try to connect. You just have to keep trying.

Random Poker Thoughts
Just because:
1. The ESPN announcers are growing on me. Some of Norman Chad's comments actually *are* funny. Mike Sexton is still the best, though.
2. I am amazed by just how many professionals are complete assjacks and don't mind performing for the cameras.
3. I have not tried pokerroom.com yet, but I like Pokerstars.com's graphics much better than True Poker.
4. Going to Chicago for the holiday weekend -- anyone ever played at Harrah's or Trump in Gary? Without being mugged?
5. TV Idea I wish I'd thought of (from Jay Lovinger's ESPN.com mailbag:

Speaking of strip poker, let's take it to the next and best level -- no-limit strip poker. Imagine that. Girl raises her shirt, you raise back all-in. Now THAT is a winning concept, eh?

Ben, that's a blockbuster reality TV show idea, a perfect star vehicle for Paris Hilton. How does a 50-50 development deal sound to you?

Ok, now's the time to put your money where your mouth is. Let's get some games going, preferrably no-limit play money (or real if you like) and see what happens. I will tell you right now that I will be in every hand, even if I only receive one card. Your jedi mind tricks simply will not work against me because I am too stupid to be afraid.
Anyway, we used to play at truepoker.com, pokerroom.com, and now there are a bunch of other places we could play too. Sunday nights used to work well with everyone.

I can't this Sunday, but I could next Sunday. I never got MR's suggested software to load correctly, so I'll need some advance warning to try to get it up and running if we're gonna use that.
I prefer play money. If I'm putting up real money, I insist on seeing the people I'm playing against. Also the temptation to actually play online with real $ if I set up an account for that seems like something I don't want to deal with.
