I have reconnected with many who are now becoming close friends that I didn't think even knew I existed back then. Apparently, I was "cool" in circles I did't even realize I was part of.

It's code. the second instance refers to the people she once got high with, and the first is to disguise it. always assume dtb is not incorrect grammatically.
