maybe because that would push him to ineligible for your dating pool?

When I reconnected with the hot girl (but didn't seem very smart) who was in my homeroom, I was even more disappointed. I figured that I would be able to take some satisfaction that she'd be working some low paying job, living in the same small town, and would not have aged well.

Nope.

She's just as hot as she was then, has an MBA, works for one of the highest end consulting firms, and lives in a fancy suburb.

But I'm her Facebook friend now, which probably is better than I would have done in highschool.

Hank, what's with the gunning for "Poster Most Likely to Come Up with a Charitable Explanation for Stuff"? You're going to expose your sensitive side!

Yeah, but Wonk wouldn't necessarily object to the bucket of pig's blood if you could promise there might be some bacon in it.

Do people only get upset with things like this on facebook, or should I be pining over that unanswered linkedin invite?

I'm sure the difference in your lesser reaction to a rejection compared to GWNC's has more to do with the frequency of rejection in your respective lives, and therefore the realization of the possibility, moreso than the medium of the rejection.
