Luckily I have someone bringing me some Pliny the Elder on Friday.

I like David Chang. Also, I didn't know I shouldn't since I never read GQ articles.

I still don't get all this funky micro-brew stuff. I've had lots of them, but in the end, I've only found one beer (Waterloo Dark) that I enjoy as much as a good old fashioned Guinness. Are these microbrew IPAs and stuff really just sort of the chilled white wine of the privileged middle-aged-but-not-willing-to-admit-it-yet American male?

It maybe a term of art if you are a lawyer. If you're just a young lady whose privacy has been violated by some asshole looking to build his rep, not so much a term of art. Just calling an asshat an asshat, and pointing out that everyone who looked at them is encouraging that criminal is a perfectly reasonable statement. I think that to some extent this argument is a tacit admission that we know she's right.

No. Some of it is just hype, but a lot of it is an explosion of brewing creativity that has been unleashed by a loosening of regulations. If Guinness is your thing and you're not really into beer, there's nothing wrong with that. And if David Chang wants to drink Bud Lite every day, that's fine for him. But for people who are into beer and want variety (and it now seems like there is an almost endless variety), it is awesome. There are so many fantastic breweries that have sprung up literally within 15 miles of my house. It's beer heaven.

Except for his description of the memory cheap beers evoke, stupid piece.

I don't give a fuck if you like cheap or expensive beer. Drink what you like. What he's really saying (besides, he likes cheap, watered-down beer) is he hates jackasses that act like beer sommeliers when ordering.

If you want something super hoppy (and I hate that), go ahead and ask about the IPAs on tap. If you're in the mood for an overly sweet Belgian beer, go for it. Just don't use it as a means to show off, because no one cares.

I can't stand Budweiser and similar beers because there's so much sugar that they taste like soda to me. But hell, I drink Killians (as we all know), so I'm in no position to truly judge.*

*Although I reserve my right to do so.
Apropos of your invitation to ask a beer-snobby question, I rarely drink beer at home because I have decided I like it much more from a tap than from a bottle. Does that make sense, or am I fooling myself?

It is a great time to be a beer drinker in the U.S.A. Our fathers got to do awesome stuff like smoke indoors, fight in Vietnam and slap the behinds of their secretaries, but they also had a very limited selection of flavorless macrobeers.

Nothing wrong with Guinness. It's actually a great sessions beer.
