I wish someone would pay me $5,500/hour for my skills

Article in the Post said from New York. On the regional train, not the Acela. Which would have been worth it at $1000/hour, let alone $5500.

Surely the Emporers Club made its services available in the nation's capitol as well.

ETA: It does. As well as in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.
Nice selective quoting re: leaving out my "Buy New York!" comment. How much is a regional train ticket? $300? Because $4,300 is starting to sound plausible.

Well, I could quote NFH too, but you already did.

The difference in ticket price is maybe $200, depending on time. About $100 for regional, $300 for Acela, but that's a bit like comparing airfares--they're all over the place with discounts and times and such. Either way, if he's paying for that time, the upgrade, even to save 20 minutes, is probably worth it.

Rent's not the only thing that costs money around here.

I don't know. I do know that in Philly they cost only $50.

Your linked article says "had 50 prostitutes available for appointments in New York, Washington, Miami, London and Paris" which doesn't even say that the girls were living in more than one location -- I could be available for an interview in Bali, even though I live in LA, if they made the appointment for the interview ahead of time.

Well, sure, but wouldn't 3 diamonds and $1500 be better? Maybe the 1-diamond girls are just loss leaders, or don't even exist, so that everyone's above average.

Now, a serious question. What kind of billing practices did this firm have? Or are the reporters getting something wrong? Because the report is that he paid for her travel time to Washington in addition to her fees (which makes little sense for him to do--surely they have local talent as well). But the bill was $4300 -- so was he really paying for her travel time as well? Or is she one of those junior associates who gets to bill travel only if they're working on client matters?
The way I read the FBI affidavit on the Smoking Gun, he paid for four hours of her time, plus travel, plus her own hotel room, plus a deposit for use in the future (since there was some delay with the "firm" receiving his funds for the 2/13 get-together). So no one was getting $4300/hour (sorry GWNC).

I also just read that his alias is the name of an old friend and major campaign fundraiser. How much would it suck to have your pal expropriate your name like that?

Surreal life

This is so weird.

This plane crash was on my family's ranch. We just got a call from the foreman. The FBI, FAA, Sheriff's department, and a shitload of media are there. Plane crashed on Sunday, and ended up in a heavily wooded area behind the lake that the cows aren't using right now. No one would have been back there since last weekend when my boyfriend and I were there.

It was raining all day yesterday, and the search parties didn't spot the wreckage until earlier this morning.

Another story. It doesn't really have anything to do with me, except I can't help but hit "refresh" over and over again on Austin, Brenham and Bryan news sites.

Here's a trivia question that I don't think was posted here before. Answers by PM to anyone who wants them. There are 10 countries with four-letter names -- what are they?

He paid for the hotel room in his (or whoever's, not the girl's) name, per the affidavit, and was there for like 2 hours (got there around 10, left around midnight).

Yeah--first response was "No I wasn't with him. Why would you think that?"

On the other hand, he's probably glad that it wasn't a campaign finance investigation as it had started out.

I read the affidavit last night while I was working on my billing so maybe I just padded the time!

Damn. I thought Guam was it's own country. And Siam would have been correct 60 years ago.
