2. I can vouch that Calvin was a good guy. Although we never sauna'd together.

Jalen spoke about how he grew up, how he had a different father than his sister, how his mother worked so hard, how poor he was, how rough his neighborhood was, how angry he was that his father (a professional athlete) had zero contact with him, the perception of public schools in Detroit vs. private schools, how Duke was only interested in private school kids, etc. And it is quite fucking clear that when he said he thought black kids who went to Duke were Uncle Toms, it was based on all of those things. Hell, he flat out admitted that he resented Grant Hill because he had such a great family and a father who was a professional athlete, good person and good father. He then went on to say that he resented that, but he didn't resent Grant Hill as a person.
He (and three other players) also said that he thought Laettner and Grant Hill were soft, pussies and overrated. And that they soon learned that that was not the case at all.
After watching the whole thing, it's pretty clear that Grant Hill is kind of a dick. And Mike Krzyzewski should shut the fuck up altogether. His latest statements about "breaking a race up" and how Rose's comments "hurt not only the black players, but the black students at Duke" are total fucking bullshit. I think he's a complete fucking fraud.
And I think Atticus, you should watch the documentary, although, based on some of the shit you say about cops and elite schools, it will just reinforce whatever the hell it is that goes on in your head.
2. They need to balance that documentary out. You can't film the whole thing from their perspective. I would have loved to hear from some of the alumni who didn't like their brash attitude or their trash talking. I would have liked to hear from Lawrence Funderburk, Jimmy Jackson, Grant Hill and Christian Laettner. Hell, I would have liked to hear from opposing coaches.
But to have them act like they were this group of guys who everyone was against, to act like their shit-talking didn't cross the line again and again, to act like they weren't coddled and babied by Michigan, to act like they were completely exploited by the school and Nike and everyone else who was making money off of them (which is true, but I'm sick of the athletes acting like they get nothing in return--they don't get what they deserve, but they get a lot and have a pretty good life while in school), is simply ridiculous.

Wasn't Jalen executive producer? That's like me producing the documentary on myself, in which I fuck three supermodels a day with my Hope diamond studded dick.

yeah, but because he was star and producer he could drop some lines that he knew would turn into news sound bytes and drive ratings.
How are we going to sell a video of you banging three super models? hmmmmmm.
I don't know.............
Wait I got it! "See 3 supermodels naked and engaged in sex with Coltrane for like 4 or 5 seconds each!"

This pisses me off. (Article about a "porn wikileaks" with list of 12,000 real names of porn stars, and harrassment of one particular porn actress.)

What really pisses me off is this:
Quote:

many of the real names posted on Porn Wikileaks were stolen from the patient database of the private clinic that runs STD tests for California's porn industry.
|
This also pisses me off, but in a different way:

The news quickly thrust the site into the spotlight, but the leak has been casting a silent shadow over the industry for months

Seriously, they couldn't write that piece without using the word "thrust"?

well, how many unknown authors have turned down oprah? for that matter how do you turn it down? I get an edgy new writer saying he's glad oprah didn't pick his book. but that's like GGG saying he's glad GWNC won't go out with him because she seems sexually demanding.
as to music- I do see a difference in allowing use of a song on a commercial* from letting AI or Glee do your songs. Cover versions are a compliment. These bands aren't stopping bar bands in North Dakota from playing their shit poorly, why be bugged by the covers on wide audience shows? mostly what i think when I hear a cover of a band I like is that I want to hear the original cuz it's better.
* if I had a song that was offered $$$ for a commercial I'd buy a robo-signature machine to sign the contracts to sell that shit and have the checks sent to the bar.
