He just lost the popular vote by 2% and got only 46%. He is the most unpopular incoming President since Neolithic times. I think you're pointing out that Trump and Republicans don't even pretend to engage on the level of serious policy analysis anymore, because Trump actively disdains expertise and most Republicans are a bunch of ideologues more interested in cutting taxes and getting re-elected than in whether government works, and so Krugman has no one to engage with.
