The sound of my head hitting my desk...
So pharmacists are refusing to dispense the pill per prescription from a physician in some states, and some state legislatures are contemplating legislation that allow for health care providers to refuse to participate in procedures that go against their conscience.
CVS should be able to fire someone for not dispensing a drug on these grounds, and they should be protected from ligitation from the pissed off ex-employee.

I particularly like the pharmacist who not only would not hand the prescription slip to another pharmacist, but wouldn't give it back to the woman who brought it in.
They are aware that bcps are prescribed for things other than birth control, right?

As implied criticism, this is a bit overbroad. Ain't no way we should be telling a doctor to, e.g., provide abortions. Other than that, what boycotted procedures are we talking about that you might object to a doctor skipping out on?

Agreed on marketplace principles.

They should have to give referrals. Pharmacists who won't dispense drugs carried by their pharmacy chain should go work at the "Right To Life" pharmacy. Do good Christians want to patronize a store that profits from the morning-after pill?

Agreed on abortion and, on the flip side, end-of-life decision-making (withdrawing care, following DNRs), so long as a referral is made to someone who will/will not perform the procedure. Jehovah's Witnesses shouldn't be in any position where they could withhold blood transfusions for someone else (out of operating rooms and emergency rooms). Christian Science should never be a defense for a licensed medical professional to withholding medical treatment. I imagine that gene therapy and stem-cell treatment may cause health care providers to balk in the future. Nurses tend to refuse to withdraw care after that decision has been made by the physician and the family.

Yeah, I can picture this now. "Listen Sweetie, I'm a Catholic eye doctor, so I won't perform an abortion on you, but I know a nice protestant meatcutter with a mean slice... want his number?"

As this applies to the second part of my response to RT (i.e., "agreed on market principles), you could have quoted said second part and then written "2" as I understand is the custom with you kids. Plus, I'm getting old. If I thought the pile would grow even after RT and I jumped on the Pharmacists, I'd have waited awhile so as to avoid ending up underneath you and the usual suspects who jump on piles with you. Next time, can you give me some warning?
Hello

Nothing like finding out that you agreed with me on something, huh? If it'll help, the sky is green.

Question though: What happens if (preparing for my three day tryst with my fictitious boyfriend and Sidd) I have a legal, valid script for birth control and Fringy's "Right to Life" Pharmacy is the only one in town? What if the script is given to me to control my vaginal bleeding? (Remember, guys, 28 day periods are no fun at all for anyone in the vicinity of the bleeder. Ya'll have an interest in this too, should the unwanted pregnancy thing not really concern you.)

Utterly gratuitous joke
Q: What's the difference between the Iraq War and the Vietnam War?
A: George W. Bush had a plan for getting out of the Vietnam War.

So wait - birth control pills and RU 486 are out but Viagra is OK?
