I understand your secretary's desire not to stand by and let a dog die. I do not understand how that translates into a campaign to forbid people from running with their dog.

One of the things that befuddles me about our society right now is people's absolute belief that they know how others should live their lives, and the willingness to impose those beliefs on others.

So your theory is that people realize that they are seriously endangering their dogs and are willfully choosing to expose them to a risk of death and therefor it's rude to tell them about it?

I didn't see RT say anything about "impose," but I'd be willing to bet that the people her secretary is targeting haven't given much thought to the danger to their beloved pet.

Most probably enjoy proper grammar and a will-timed cockalanche.

I didn't see RT say anything about "impose," but I'd be willing to bet that the people her secretary is targeting haven't given much thought to the danger to their beloved pet.
RT said "My secretary has taken it upon herself to start a campaign to stop people from running their pets after watching two dogs pass out from heat stroke on a popular running trail in a one week period in September. One of the passed out dogs, a bulldog, ended up needing CPR."

If RT's secretary "targeted" me and told me to "stop running [my] pets", I'd take that poorly.

I'm not sure why RT's secretary believes she has my pets best interest at heart and that I do not. That seems like an imposition.

I hear more bullshit about the breed of dog I own from well-meaning people at the dog park. I assure you, I know more about my dogs than RT's secretary does.

Gee, I don't know, maybe there are people in the world who are not all-knowing and could maybe use a reminder that, "hey, it's hot out and your dog can't sweat."

Not you, obviously, because you know everything without anyone ever having mentioned it to you, so people seeking to help only make you angry.

Well, I guess it's the same in her mind as the people who get upset about dogs left in cars. And I think she cares more about the dogs than the people. I don't think she's trying to make it illegal or anything, but if she sees a dog in distress, she's gonna say something and at least get information to dog owners.

A Great Dane's tail whacked me in the pee pee while I was feeding the the other morning. It hurt.

The Great Dane is missing now. I'm guessing she got shot by hunters who mistook her for a deer. Because most hunters are not very good hunters.

I do not miss her.

eta: Plus Danes are mostly Socialist nowadays. She would have been safer being something more egalitarian, like a Pretty Good Dane. The highest blade of grass gets cut first etc.

I'm with you on the dog thing. Some people are fucking stupid. I can't possibly think this particular issue is a major problem that needs organization and awareness raising. And what is she going to do? Research each breed to see which should and shouldn't run long distances? Pass out literature to the really really in-shape people warning them not to run too long if they have _______ type of dog? How many dogs are passing out and dying from heat exhaustion? How many people run with their dog so far that this happens more than once? The whole thing sounds pretty fucking ridiculous and seems like a tremendous waste of time and energy.

But Bloomberg's huge soda ban, I'm all for. If you need 64 ounces of soda, buy multiple sodas.
