I guess the Venn diagram of “loves punk music” and “has $12/mo to spend on lo-fi streaming audio in the Acura” had insufficient overlap.

Hmm. I think we both like Sleater-Kinney. And maybe we likewise both got no kick against modern jazz, unless they try to play it too darn fast. And maybe we agree on no blanket prohibition on horns in rock.
I'm not against Tom Petty in general. For some reason, though, I heard the first few bars of that tune and all I could see was an army of dudes with khakis and polo shirts cranking it up in their Volvos while remembering how hot Cameron Diaz was in that movie that dealt with a lot of complicated relationship type stuff, and then looking over at the stoplight to see if the cute chick in the mini-van on the was to soccer practice was noticing them. It was disturbing.

The North American Lululemon MILF is many things, but “chick” is not among them.

I know that you are (gently) mocking me, but she *was* hot in that movie, wasn't she?

Apropos of nothing, an update to Prufrock: I see the soccer moms Tweeting, each to each. I do not think they Tweet for me.

Or: At the co-op, the women come and go/speaking of kale and organic faro.

Remove John Mahoney and that movie is freaking terrible. It's pretty terrible regardless, but Mahoney is great. It's The Blacklist* of movies.

*sooooo terrible but Spader is amazing. ETA: Someone called it James Spader and the Seven Dwarfs, and my instant thought is, "wait, it's 'dwarfs' and not 'dwarves'?"

I've had pretty good luck with a Husker Du Pandora station; gets me a nice mix of first wave punk, hard core, and post-punk. Though my kids do look at me funny when I involuntarily start jumping around when Bad Brains come on.

Also, the Saints were a seriously underappreciated band.
We're watching Sonic Highway, the Dave Grohl love letter to punk on HBO right now, and when they went to DC, they spent a good half hour talking about Bad Brains. The second they came on the screen, my husband said that he went to a Bad Brains show when he was about 14 years old and it still ranks at the top of craziest, most physical shows he's ever been to. (He's been to a lot of shows.)

Also, my husband's youth and influences pretty much mirror Dave Grohl's up to about 1990. Dave Grohl joined Nirvana, my husband joined the Marines.

I really want the Israeli chick to shoot Liz and become Red's side kick. Keep Denbe and Aren and get rid of every else.

I never saw the movie. But I'm sure she was hot. A couple of years ago, I was at the gym, where players from out-of-town professional sporting teams often work out when in town to play professional sporting teams from the Minneapolis region, and some players from the New York City Northern Aggression team were working out, and in walked Cameron, looking good even in workout clothes and no make up. I'm pretty sure she *noticed* me, because I was doing leg presses and I bike a lot and stuff, but I didn't want to cause a scene and have to have a confrontation with her pretty boyfriend, so I didn't *notice* her back.

Some early Fishbone shows were closer to riots than probably any other shows I have been to. When I saw TAD, though, at a small club where they were headlining, I was actually scared of some of the other audience members. They were some real angry dudes.

ETA - There is a TAD documentary! Called "Busted Circuits and Ringing Ears," it apparently discusses all the things that went wrong, like when they got sued for the cover of 8-Way Santa (the name of a type of blotter acid, which they were apparently very fond of) because the dude on the cover became a Born Again Christian and did not like the publicity. Fucking Christians.

Oddly, I'm revising my perspective on this a bit. I've been spending some not-entirely-platonic time with a 25 year old recently (he turns 26 this month!) and the main thing that made me agree to go out with him was how great our conversations were. Now, I don't think this "relationship" is headed anywhere long-term, but he's great company and he's cute and I've had a far better time with him than I've had with guys my own age of late, so...

I still don't understand men who only are willing to date 10+ years younger, but I do concede that it is possible to have things in common and stuff to talk about with someone significantly younger.
