Why don't you and the Mrs. just leave for the weekend and let them stay? It doesn't sound like either of you are necessary for their trip.
You hit the nail on the head there. The last time we* stayed, we felt like they were under the impression it was THEIR house and they could do whatever the fuck they wanted in it. I could give you more stories, but I don't want to waste the effort.

*ETA: Holy shit, look at that slip up. They have infected my psyche!

Agreed. Did they say they want to come visit or was it more of a "dude, I need a place to crash after RK"?

What puzzles me most is how proles can afford LASIK? IS it cheap now or does insurance cover it? Maybe his new found vision will force him to put himself and the Missus on some kind of bullshit carb diet. like a McMac without a bun, or a swansons fried chicken without the breading?

Just because they are from the midwest and might not be east coast proper doesn't mean they don't make a good living. She's a nurse and he's a shift manager at a manufacturing company. They do pretty well for themselves, considering the COL where they live.

Don't be ridiculous. There are no rich people in the patch.

Isn't laser eye surgery fairly inexpensive now? $1500 per eye?

And I know that some insurers USED to cover it. Don't know if they still do.

Oh - the reason they are staying with us this time is for a follow up on his surgery. His eye clinic is about 8 blocks from our house.
You are not coming off well here.

So, they failed to leap to their feet and offer you seats when you arived home? This guy with recent eye surgery? It took them ten minutes?

The horror. The horror.

Hey, Brainy, the conclusion that they were not rich is not from being patch denizens but from MR's statement that my charactrizations that they were "midwestern proles" was "fairly accurate". Plus, rich folk dont tend to sprawl their whalish bodies on the loveseats of their friends who they are freeloading on.

I could understand it if the husband didn't move due to the surgery, but it was his fat wife who stayed sprawled on the couch. Eye surgery guy actually made room on the love seat.

Conslusion: husband is probably not that bad of a guy. Wife is a lazy bitch.

Funny, the whole discussion was reminding me of exactly that paranoia. It is the curse of the truly innocent that their first thought would usually be "omigod, did I do it?" when they know perfectly well they didn't.

Sometimes when I'm at the gym (hah, like that ever happens - ok, sitting around somewhere, whatever) and I start to smell something not right, usually my first paranoid thought is - "oh, christ, is that me?" Then I realize that I bathed and properly annointed myself with deodorant and 99.99% of the time that means I don't smell, and if it was me, I probably wouldn't smell it and the guy next to me would be looking uncomfortable and I wouldn't know why. But then I think "yeah, but if it is me and I actually am smelling it, it must be really, really bad!" And I get paranoid until I run off to the bathroom and confirm that I am not whiffy. Only times this didn't happen was when I was a vegetarian and what I was smelling was meat - when you've been a veggie for a while, carnivores really do smell different, and it's often not good.

Not sure why I thought anyone would give a shit about that little musing, but that paranoia is a killer.

You think that it's appropriate to lounge around on the furniture of your hosts, feet up and all? To watch TV while at your hosts home and pay more attention to the screen than to the hosts? They were treating MR and his wife like the owners of a hotel. I am notorious for my poor judgment but I would never dream of doing something like that. These people are rude fats and MR should not have to house and feed them.

Christ, Bilmore. You know you'd get off your fucking ass in this situation, as would anyone else with a bit of manners. Especially considering the statement I made about sitting on the floor. Who in their right mind would allow someone to sit on the floor in their own home while they laid there taking up the whole couch? Who, Bilmore? Would you if you were a guest in someone's house? And I'm not talking about your mother's house. I'm talking about if your friends had the courtesy to let you crash at their home.

And, in fact, it was the guy who actually got up right away. You know, the one who had lasik surgery? What's the wife's excuse for such poor manners? Answer: there is none.

Stop being recockulous.
