It is encouraging to see all the "Je Suis Planned Parenthood" expressions out there.

Does anyone really think Rubio or Cruz can win the GOP nomination?

The good news is I don't think any of them can actually beat Hillary (yeah, I know, polls). |

 | I agree with every word of this.

Rubio worries me, as I think he can win the nomination and the election. That seriously scares me, given the current state of the GOP and the consistent failure of even "mainstream" or establishment Republicans to stop pandering to and feeding the insane beast they created. Hard to imagine how deeply crazy it'll get if they control the WH, Sen, and House. Kansas, anyone?

As for Cruz, my skin crawls when I see his face.

 | I grew up near beautiful Poughkeepsie, NY, where the face of the Republican Party was our local boy, G. Gordon Liddy, noted as DA for pulling out a gun and shooting into the ceiling of the courtroom when a judge was ruling against him, and for going on to the Nixon Whitehouse after that.

These guys have always been totally fucking nuts, and it doesn't stop them from getting elected.

I'm afraid of both of them, and they both could win.

So, people complain about the ignorant and racist things they see from "friends" and family on Facebook all the time. Mostly I don't see it. Either I've scared away all the people that post that shit or I'm super cool and only have non asshat friends.
Then today my cousin's husband, who almost never posts anything, shared a "joke" image of a kid with a text blurb saying, "are you my daddy?" Amidst a bunch of fleeing black men with the caption, "how to break up black live matter protests."

I decided to ignore it. Should I engage? I rarely see this guy and he lives in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin, so I'm not really surprised. On the other hand, he's generally a really nice, soft spoken guy.

Don't engage.

Very rarely, someone will say something racist or sexist or whatever on Facebook, and you can call them on it and get a positive response. But that happens, if at all, when someone normally sensible does a casual reply to a post. A guy who actually re-posted a photo like that? He's a complete dick. You'll get sucked into misery if you say something.

Stay friends with him, because it's important to know that there are people like this out there, and to see what they say.

Braver people than me will tell you should certainly call him on this. Honestly, they are probably right and in a better moment, a better version of Sidd will tell you the same thing.

 | Make a joke. "I thought that was how you broke up a Republican Presidential debate." If you're feeling a bit righteous, end it with a "I thought you were better than that." It may not help the situation, but at least it doesn't leave the idiocy sitting there without comment.

I can only deal with this crap so often, but I know they're reading my threads and feeling more or less the same about stuff I post.

 | Adder, I sent you a PM about dealing with it IRL. But FB is different.

First thing, even IRL, you are not going to "educate" someone dumb enough to post that, all you can hope for is to get them to shut up next time. And FB seems the worst place to confront/discuss anything. But I keep the whacks around since it is interesting to read the nonsense they believe. "Obama has convinced Congress to grant him a third term!" Obama can't convince Congress to pass a budget, how can anyone be so whacked as to believe the third term stuff? It's scary to see how bad people I know are, but better than not knowing how bad they are.
