eta: Here's the Wikipedia entry:
Houdini's last performance was at the Garrick Theatre in Detroit, Michigan on October 24, 1926. The next day he was hospitalized at Detroit's Grace Hospital. Houdini died of peritonitis from a ruptured appendix at 1:26 p.m. on Halloween, October 31, 1926, at the age of 52.
The most widespead account is that Houdini's ruptured appendix was caused by multiple blows to his abdomen from a McGill University student, J. Gordon Whitehead, in Montreal on October 22. The eyewitnesses to this event were two McGill University students named Jacques Price and Sam Smilovitz (sometimes called Jack Price and Sam Smiley). Their accounts generally agreed. The following is according to Price's description of events. According to Price, Houdini was reclining on his couch after his performance, having an art student sketch him. When Whitehead came in and asked if it was true that Houdini could take any blow to the stomach, Houdini replied in the affirmative. In this instance, he was struck several times, before Price protested. Whitehead reportedly continued hitting Houdini several times afterwards, and Houdini acted as though he were in some pain. Price recounted that Houdini stated that if he had had time to prepare himself properly, he would have been in better position to take the blows. After taking statements from Price and Smiley, Houdini's insurance company concluded that the death was due to the dressing room incident and paid double indemnity.
Despite this, modern medical knowledge gives no reason to believe Houdini's acute appendicitis was caused by any physical trauma. McGill University's archives' supported this idea: It appears that Whitehead's punch to Houdini's stomach, while not fatal, aggravated an existing but still undetected case of appendicitis. Although in serious pain, Houdini nonetheless continued to travel without seeking medical attention."
Tragically, on October 31st, 1926, the famous magician and illusionist Harry Houdini died from peritonitis, a severe inflammation of the abdomen region caused by a ruptured appendix. Houdini's funeral was held on November 4 in New York, with over two thousand mourners in attendance. He was interred in the Machpelah Cemetery Queens, New York, with the crest of the Society of American Magicians inscribed on his gravesite. The Society holds their "Broken Wand" ceremony at the gravesite on the anniversary of his death to this day.

200+ posts over two weeks about whether someone has nice hair, but chunky tits, and you're complaining about anything someone else says about one of your posts? That's rich.

Oh. I see. You're a little bitch. My bad.
I just didn't understand why what I said was interesting enough to argue about. Since you have no response, apparently you just felt like arguing about some shit today.
But don't give me any bullshit about the ppnyc garbage. People bitch and moan, but the whole thing was pretty entertaining. You can argue that you are far too superior to have enjoyed it all you want, but judging from the number of posts from pretty much everyone on the board on the topic, you'd be full of shit.

You're right, it wasn't interesting enough to argue about. and that's why I didn't. I know you're a surly new yawker, so it's ingrained, but that doesn't mean every time someone says something in response to a post of yours they are making an argument.
And you're very wrong about all the posts about patent para being entertaining.

I am actually with you on this one.
Yeah, it was excessive but it was comedy even if it was at my expense. This board as Sebby said was on "death rattles" and the usual fare is not so interesting if I may be so bold. Not that my looks are...but the whole way it was approched was crazy.

This shit is tired and has always been stupid. If you want to think you didn't pluck something out of the post to argue about, for no apparent reason, then fine. But me asking you why has nothing to do with where I live.

But it was entertaining because of the extreme delusion you were/are under.

Half the people in GST have told her the opposite.

Yep. And don't get me wrong -- I'd love to see the Mets pull it off, especially with the Yankees about to enter a long period of stagnation, chaos and decay. But although I am not a Thurgreed / Burger style baseball pundit, I get the feeling that we will struggle against teams that have some available, uninjured starting pitchers.

I think SS feels she is really attractive, except he won't say so because he is afraid you'll see it as starting an argument. I expect this triangle is going to end sort of like how In the Company of Men ends with SS playing the short balding guy role and falling for PPNYC.

Maybe I'm whiffing? did you cite to Wikipedia as a "joke?" if not what little credibility you have had is now gone in my book.

I'm glad that, even after only a few weeks, we have moved on from the actual debate about ppnyc's looks and the (un)fairness of Thrugreed's review to a discussion of the effect this series of posts had on the board. I am still going to wait to jump in, however, until we get to posts analyzing the discussion of the effect on the board of the ppnyc/Thurgreed tempest. I try not to get engaged until we get to the realm of the meta meta because otherwise things are just too real and raw, and frankly I find the whole thing a bit distasteful.

Normally, I would not even be bothered to respond to a post such as this but would instead imperceptibly shake my head with a fleeting sadness and move on. But because I believe that, deep down, despite your constant egregious lapses in mental discipline, you care as much about the Newbers as I do, I will simply point out that 1) my reference to Wikipedia as being "authoritative" was indeed intended to be ironic, and 2) I think you will nonetheless find that, for subjects such as the cause of Houdini's death, the information you find on Wikipedia is likely to be as accurate as you are going to find.
