The worst people in the world are those who have seats in the back of the plane (or who have boarding priority), who put their extra shit above your seat and then move back to theirs. They fuck it up for everyone.

Much as I like the first part of what you said, I would guess that flight attendants would recoil in horror at having to police this. I'm not sure there is any other reason.

On a note similar to Not Bob's re: Spirit -- on one major airline (Delta?), which I don't often use because SF isn't a hub for them, they allowed early boarding for anyone who would only put stuff under the seat in front of them. Kudos for that idea.

And anyone who puts their coat in the overheard before everyone has been seated, should be shot on the tarmac.
I don't see how any sane person could disagree with this.

Back when I was working, if I had to go in the day after a holiday, I didn't burn a vacation day. I sat around, bullshitting the three other people in the office, read the paper, and took a 2-hour lunch. Then I'd go back and bullshit some more until we all got an email from upstairs telling us we could go home.

Of course, I also had 15 years straight where I was on the phone for half of dinner every Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve on business.

When I travel, I take about 15 vials of different medications with me in my Dopp kit. TSA doesn't WANT to know what's in my bag.

Wrong. This would be something that would be largely self-policed. And anything in an overheard compartment of an unassigned seat would be checked.

Me to flight attendant: "This isn't mine, but it was in my space."

Flight attendant to everyone already on board: "This bag will be checked. I'll give anyone on this plane one opportunity to claim it or you can wait for it at the carousel upon arrival."

One month of this and everyone follows the rule.

one tweak- "I'll give anyone on this plane one opportunity to claim it or we'll take it off the plane and it will not fly with you." Cannot check that which is unclaimed.

And Thurgreed and I have to get going on the patent applications for the new over head compartments that will be coming along to facilitate this. Cha-ching!

Great idea. Really great idea.

I use the overhead for two things: my personal bag and my coat. I check everything else (and I keep a smaller "necessities" bag in the personal bag for the stuff I always use on the flight, like headphones, and take that out when I put the bag up there).

If I had my own space it would only be half-full, but I wouldn't have to listen to douchebags who have pushed the maximum carry-on limits whine about putting my coat or personal bag up there.

By the way, if it's a full flight, I'll be flexible with the little bit of shit I carry on, unlike the person standing over me ramming my little computer bag over and over with some massive "carry on" that doesn't fit.

Maybe. But I think you underestimate the extent to which airlines really, really don't want to suggest that there are bags on board that are not claimed by anyone.

You're generous. I would tell them at the check-in and that's it.

A rule that says "2 bags" is a lot easier to administer than a rule that says "3000 cu. in, however configured"

Same experience - although with precheck it's now irrelevant. Or they've now formally authorized my previous succesful practice.

Hell, I've policed it. If there's a bag in the overhead in my unoccupied row - "does this belong to you?" is asked of people nearby. If not, it's in the aisle and the FA notified.
