That, and convenience, which is really the legal thing in disguise. I want to get drunk, I go to a bar or a store and buy some booze. Drugs are not so readily available, or so I hear.

And Atkins. Let's not forget Atkins. Yes, most alcoholic beverages have carbs. But you can control it a little better and make some choices in advance. It's a lot harder to keep yourself from diving into the potato chips when the munchies hit. Or so I hear.
personally, I find most comfort in pharmaceuticals. They're cheaper, more reliable, easier to control dosage, and the docs prescribe me more than enough to keep me mellow.

Your mental health is a lost cause. I was speaking of your physical health. I think a giraffe at the local zoo in my hometown died when it was unable to take a shit for several weeks.

I'm not really sure what we're debating, other than the last couple of tidbits, but wouldn't how the information is required to be treated by the House (or Senate) be relevant to determining whether it was "public" or not for purposes of determining improper trading? I mean, if the Wall St. J. is on newstands at 4:00am, can't you start trading on information therein at that point, regardless of whether you might have had earlier access to it?
Yes. If it's been published, its no longer non public info.

...With intent to promote them? As in, vibrators are fun, everybody should own at least three, but less than six, or as, my new firm will be known as RT & Vibrators?

That's pretty clearly promotion, if you ask me.

That's correct. U.S. v. Winans. The case concerned the writer of the WSJ's Heard on the Street column.

news from Iraq

Matt Yglesias in TAPPED (which has links):
  • GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, AND MORE BAD NEWS. The Center for Strategic and International Studies has released an update (PDF) to their "Progress or Peril" report measuring reconstruction in Iraq. The bad news is that on four out of five metrics -- governance, services, health care, and education -- Iraqis believe things are getting worse. The good news is that on four out of five metrics -- security, governance, services, and education -- CSIS believes the situation is objectively improving. (Those figures only run through October and don't take into account the recent surge in violence.)
The bad news again is that even in those sectors where CSIS thinks we're improving, we're nowhere near the "tipping points" they've identified where progress becomes a self-reinforcing virtuous circle. Indeed, the only category in which we're not in the "danger zone" where one worries about a self-reinforcing process in the other direction is the governance and participation indicator. If I'm right that a majoritarian government will do little to calm the fears of Iraq's minority groups -- groups that together constitute about 40 percent of the population -- this may not wind up doing us very much good in spurring progress on other fronts. The rapid deterioration of Iraq's health care system along with epdidemiological data indicating a large increase in mortality among the Iraqi population should be regarded as very disturbing in light of the humanitarian arguments that have been presented on behalf of this war.

ETA the glasses make it clear that that is a SPINSTER cow.
I saved it to my hard drive and cropped it to just the spinster cow head but can't figure out how to post it here for you.

I have no idea either, but thank you! Someone will tell us eventually.
