If I liked whiskey and wanted to bring some along on an outdoor adventure without worrying about a glass bottle (which appears to be one of the marketgin pitches), I'd think pouring some into a flask would be a better way to go.

FWIW I do not think whiskey goes bad once opened.

It wasn't that I thought it would go bad as much as I thought it would spill or evaporate. The can looked like an ordinary pop top soda can so I figured one would have to slug it down in one sitting or leave it open.

I have never had boxed wine, but, um, really? I'm just hoping you're not out there getting through winter with a box of wine you opened three weeks ago. If so, let me know, and I'll send this guy out with some nice 20 year old scotch to rescue you:

I am certainly not going to say that its mouth-finish is warming, sweet and a bit oily, with an early onset of toffee giving way to green floral notes and smoke, ending with sugared ginger.
I also have about a 95% chance of getting laid tonight.
The wise man understands that these two things are connected.

1. If I chose Glenlivet 12, I would not tell a soul either.
2. Thanks for reviving the angry God-fist imagery. Mouth-finish, indeed.

It was an attempt to reference a generic category of scotches for a fine occassion (e.g., not just the everyday drinking 15 year olds or even 18 year olds and certainly not the commodity that Atticus drinks). I'd put that 19 year old Laphraoig in the group, since I actually like it more than the 28 year old, and it's a world better than the 18.
They've now run out of the 19 at the Distillery, and apparently don't have plans to release another one. I may have to look for a couple bottles to put away.

I find the 19 year olds to be perky and willing, but quite immature. However, the 28 year olds are often overripe, but are willing to take it in the ass.

This was mildly amusing until I thought of Atticus and the 12 year old he picked up yesterday. Then I was seriously squicked out.

I can't remember the last time I bought boxed wine but have been to some parties where people brought it and it was OK. I don't know how long they are supposed to last but probably longer than an open pop top can of scotch.

I don't think the type person who buys a pop top scotch plans on savoring it over a few days (p.s. it isn't scotch, it's some Pacific theatre whiskey, right?)

My boyfriend has been on a beef bourguignon kick for the last six months or so. Pretty much everyone (Bourdain, Keller, Child) agrees that you're supposed to use the crappiest Burgandy that you can find, so there's usually a box in the pantry or half a box of wine in our fridge waiting for the next time the mood to make beef bourguignon strikes.

Have I just been called out for drinking a prole single malt? Oooh, burn. And by that I mean "lightly medicinal heat in the foreground and smoky peat-reek notes behind."
This is why I never never never talk about single malt scotch. I feel like I've gotten some kind of douchebag contact high.
