You need to explore the glory of Death Valley National Park more. Pahrump is just outside the park, and has the closest legal brothels to Las Vegas (40 miles). Your casino has limos that will take you.

Plus, Vince Neil owns a bar there. I think he has only been there once to take photos, and it is not next to a brothel (which was totally what I was expecting for some cross-marketing, duh), but there are opportunities for you - https://lasvegassun.com/news/2019/oc...fa-hello-hemp/

Re: Objectively intelligent.

While I am wonking, I will be starting a new job next Monday. Going back to quasi-big law as a (non-equity) partner for a national insurance firm with a San Francisco office as their no. 2 coverage (in CA) butt-boy. DM me if you care for the details, or I will be posting it on Facebook and LinkedIn.

I really did not want to, but it has been 20 months since I quit AIG. I don't mind burning money if I am traveling, exploring and doing what I like to do, but I reached my "dude, you are being stupid" point after 8 months since March 2020 burning money while contemplating my navel (recreational pot here, and therefore no drug test for THC) with no particular end in sight. May as well get paid to shelter-in-place.

So in the category of how nuts can you go, a trumper FB friend from HS just posted that he is going to Trump's inauguration!

Kudos. Hope to catch up post-vaccine. If you’re sitting home, makes most sense to do work and get paid. Doing deps and briefs and oral argument from home ain’t bad.

I feel for the guys who specialize at trials. Ain’t done shit for 8 months.

Got a bit of a soap opera vibe to it.

Keith Richards' book, Life, tackles the subject brilliantly, explaining how he carefully avoided buying bad quality stuff, and knew when to walk away from the mirror. ("I'm gonna walk, before they make me run...")

But as far as technical skill goes, McInerney certainly has chops. And Ellis's American Psycho may cheaply rely on a lot of shock, but is still a very satisfying and brutally humorous satire. Ellis' recent book, White, about growing up a gay white male in a time when one was required to stay in the closet, is, OTOH, dense, lacking focus, and beyond self-indulgent. He claimed it was aimed at rebuking wokeness and political correctness from an underdog's point of view, but only one word fits as a review: Muddled.

I've done about twenty hearings during Covid. Only about half were evidentiary. But many were in person. But that's just contract cases. If you're trying cases involving lots of witnesses, exhibits, picking juries, you're fucked right now.

We're a Commonwealth, so the counties get to decide whether to do things in person or not. Courthouses in counties that haven't been hit hard are still open. In truly remote counties, some judges allow people to take off masks when distanced adequately in the courtroom. I had one direct me to take off my mask during questioning of a witness.

Rudy-style. Sorry, at my age, I am challenging the judge on that one. Want to throw me in jail, Your Honor better hope he or she is an Article III judge.

On another note, I know a few people who have done full-blown remote jury trials

It was odd. I use a women's hair tie as a gaiter (a female friend of mine introduced me to the concept... they unfurl and cover your face tightly, and they come in colorful prints). You can talk quickly through them without having the cloth suck back into your face like the regular masks do when people are speaking quickly or breathing heavily. I can understand a judge getting frustrated with people wearing regular masks, as they frequently stop and start and fiddle with the mask, or catch their breath. I think he just wanted to read my face.

Ex-military guy. I didn't challenge him.

Court reporter looked a bit freaked out. I backed up away from her out of courtesy.

You think he means Trump's allegedly planned inauguration day rally in FL?

I don't think Trump has the balls to actually do that. First, it runs the risk of drawing a miserably small crowd, further demeaning him. Second, it's taking sore loserdom and childish petulance to a level that's embarrassing even for Trump.

(Of course, given my penchant for predictions, there will indeed be a rally. And your friend will acquire Covid at it.)

Fuck that workin' for the man shite. You should start a Fans Only or Patreon page.

You may think nobody wants to see a middle aged guy do anything. But if the internet has taught us anything, it's that everyone has a fan base of some sort.

You're going to take care of business anyway. Why not have Eunice from Ackron pay you for it?

Scary, but not that surprising.
