No. (And I'm not "giving him a pass.")
This may come as a shock to you, Sebby, but not everyone looks at the world the way you do -- and that's a good thing.
For example, I know that you intended some hyperbole in your statement that the word "preacher" ought to inspire "fear and loathing" in all educated people -- that is just your style and you have fun with it.
That said, your continual hammering on that and similar themes bespeaks a view of the world that is as distorted, small-minded, self-centered and ignorant as the world-view of any of the Southern fundamentalists you so often sneer at.
I am long since tired of discussing this issue, but if you really want to discuss my views on Obama and Wright, you can PM me with questions and I'll try to respond.

Huckleberry's support of Wright is not at all complicating or inconsistent. The radical Black left tradition from which Wright comes is in large measure a separatist movement as well as the Klan. Both groups live to see the White Folks and the Black folks living segregated in their own armed camps. They haven't worked out theeconomy and commerce stuff yet, or the actual territory, but that will get sorted out once the Revolution comes.

You may remember, I found Huck more amusing than objectionable.
Look, if you're black in America and don't want to hang out with country club stiffs who need a token, you're going to hang out with at least some people who are bitter and angry. Anger is part of the Black experience. If you're a born-again Christian in America and want to go to church, you're going to hang out with some folks with some pretty strange ideas. Lunacy is part of the born-again experience.
I yearn for days when I can hang out with folks who are more interesting and colorful than the sober, buttoned down, hardworking and well-heeled crowd I spend time with. I'd like to hang out with some people who are angry, lunatic, drunk, silly and say things the Times or Journal wouldn't print. Shoot me.
But get upset with Obama for it? Hell no. Get a life, folks.

Gore?
Even Klein admits that it's a dumb idea.
This is what happens when you have 7 weeks between primaries. The campaigns turn nasty on each other, and journalists get bored and start thinking of stupid, alternative universes.

"Preacher" is one of those words that couldn't have been better chosen for what it represents. If anything, my commentary robbed the word of an exhibitionist shock value much better exploited leaving it to stand on its own.
"I am a preacher."
"My preacher says..."
I infused the word with nothing it hasn't earned. If one were to ask me to think of ten or so images "preacher" brings to mind, I'd have to go with
Velveeta
ZZ Top videos
Pleather
Snake oil
Jimmy Swaggart crying
Dirt farming
Grits
Bad teeth
Mumus
Chewing tobacco
Jim Jones
Turn on your television on a Sunday morning and tell me if I'm wrong.

I enjoy the rant, but saying that Sunday televangelists are representative of religion in America is something like saying Jim Cramer is representative of US financial markets.

BTW, if I "preach" to you, on a continuum of credibility, where you place me in relation to:
1. Accredited professionals who teach you in school;
2. Bosses who teach you how a business works;
3. Doctors who examine your body and prescribe you medicine; and
4. Scientists who explain how the world around you operates.

I feel it is imperative for the voters and for my supporters to know that I reject and denounce this sort of hiding behind Spanky and to reassure all of you that my arrogance and punditry will be conducted fully in the sunshine.

As the son of a preacher man, I've got to tell you there's a good side to it as well.

The issue here is how often this "preacher" (and I use that term with all the proper fear and loathing it should paint in any educated mind) has spewed hatred and bile from the pulpit. The more regularly, the more likely our Saint Obama sat through it, and the more we should ask him to explain why.
His speech was fantastic, but as the evidence continues to prove Wright is far more odious than I knew at the time of the speech, the more it's looking like an attempt to obliterate fact with rhetoric.

I'm not giving Obama a complete pass, because this is eveidence of the sort of political expediency I am sick and tired of. On the other hand, he was right about not just marginalizing these people and having to confront them. And, it does show that he can play the game, noxious as it is.

This is the sort of bone-headed move that will have me writing in Lewis Black's name on the ballot in November, if it comes to pass.

I don't read poplitical blogs. I find them to be laughably distorted and full of shit. At least Jon Stewart is trying to be funny.

Just so I understand, then, are you using the word "preacher" as somehow different than merely a minister, reverend, priest, imam, rabbi, etc. (all folks who preach)?
