The expert testimony industry stands at the base of everything completely fucked up in the litigation business. If there's a bigger racket, I've yet to see it. For further reading, check this out: http://www.caller2.com/2005/pics/PTO29jurisdiction.pdf

I win and now it's damage time. I say, I ain't using an expert. I'll prove my damages with the infringer's testimony and my president's. the other lawyer actually moved to have my case thrown out since i couldn't prove damages w/o an expert. huh? the weird thing was the judge actually thought about it, i could tell he was about to step on my case.

i hate experts.

but, since this is the parents board, i will say this- if you can get your kids into a position where they're hired as an expert, that is a lucrative thing.

 | Ever dealt with an "Expert Broker"?

"Yeah, I need a [insert type of expert], from out of state."*

"I got one in Maryland."

"Fine. How many times has he testified?"

"He's got a few under his belt, but it's all good. He can handle himself. Knows the drill. Where can I fax the C.V.?"

Parents should be careful their kids don't get into this crowd, IMHO.

* So nobody knows too much about him/her.

 | That's actually my dream career move. If I could start getting tax expert gigs, it would improve the quality of my life tenfold.

As to your kids, while I know I've heard Justice Holmes-style concerns, I also know that there is a tendancy for IQ to move toward the mean, so I don't share those worries.
