Very sad. If there are details at some point that include a way to remember her let us know.

She wasn’t very active on FB but she was checking in here as recently as last week. A family member (brother?) posted only that it was very unexpected and that the “exact cause” (?) is still unknown. From what I know of her on FB, she was a Boston history buff, an avid birdwatcher, and an international traveller. She was an occasional commenter on my “Mad Men” FB notes. As is sometimes the case with these connections, I don’t know if she was married/attached (don’t think so) or whether she had kids (pretty sure she didn’t).
I will certainly let you know if I learn more.

jesus, I just checked in here because of this. It is Sparklehorse, then? That's very sad news. I dated a friend of hers for a while about 10 years ago and we were in touch quite a bit during that time. A very kind person. Shit.

Jesus. Thanks for letting us know. (I'm not on Facebook, so I had no idea.) I hadn't talked to her in a while, but she wasn't married or attached the last time we spoke, and she had no kids (other than a niece she was close to).
She was a delightful person. She sent me music, I sent her a copy of a book semi-related to the FB, we both liked Manhattans (up for me, rocks for her).
Ugh. I was just in The Ancestral Homeland, a place she was familiar with (though it wasn't The Ancestral Homeland for her), for a family thing, and I was thinking about sending her an email about it.
Double ugh.

Reason: To remove an extra parenthesis, which she would have appreciated.

She used to comment on my personal blog quite a bit when I was more active there. I'm very sorry to hear this. I have nothing but positive memories of her.

It certainly makes my whining seem a bit trivial, now.

I'm saddened to hear this, but thanks for passing the information along. She seemed like a lovely person.

there's no crying in estate sales
So I almost posted this on FB but then decided I'm not that person-
my sister is the nurse so she got to drive the rents to appointments with doctors where we get bad news. I'm the lawyer so I handle the business stuff.
meaning I get to do the estate sale. I love doing garage sales, haggling etc, but was a bit nervous about this for the obvious. Anyway I kicked ass early. No qualms, no tears. I sold the fucking framing square (carpenter thing) that my dad used when he tried to teach me how to be a constructive person. That was the point we both realized I was useless as to doing good, and that I'd better go to law school and be a leech on society.
I sold that shit for $5 cold-blooded, rang the cash register. It was like that all day.
Then, 3-ish, a women asked how much for the 2 chairs they used to go watch kids soccer games. I said "6" then had this wave of grief. I walked into the nearest empty room and sobbed for a few. got it cleared up and walked back to her. She had decided not to buy.
meaning tomorrow I have to sell them again.

I never said I wasn't doing top-drawer work. I just noted I was being upstaged.
