But I think those are the desert/hot places camouflage, and they do need it from time to time. And the knee thingies coordinate with the interior of the helmets, the goggles and, of course, the guns. Sort of a matching shoes & belt & purse concept.
I think, although I could be way wrong, but camo is one of three basic options. 1) Mess (formal) dress; 2) Uniform (the olive drab with jackets and ties, although there are lots of varieties, depending on rank); 3) battle dress (including camo and other purpose-driven outfits). Civilian attire is another option, either when on leave or if local circumstances dicate (e.g., when off-base in a foreign country).

Since the guy's in battle, he probably wasn't given a lot of choice. He's not wearing cold-weather camo, and he's not going to wear a tie. So he wears what he's told to.

As for imposters, I believe the army implemented a system of RFID tags embedded in uniforms to counter just such a problem. That, or something like UPC codes on the uniforms that serve a similar purpose. But it could be a problem.

Camouflage is, I believe, the stuff that is supposed to camouflage you (ie., battle dress, in most cases). I've never heard regular and formal uniforms called camouflage. Civvies are also permitted when not on duty (at least outiside battle zones, about which I have no idea).

No, actually, I'm correct. Camouflage is a kind of fatigues.

You are, and don't let pretty little puss 'n boots subject you to his particular brand of bitchy hate. He's gotten too used to everyone just rolling over when he lashes out with some snarky bullshit like this, trying to stifle legitimate contributions from new posters. Frankly, he feels threatened, as well he should. The fact that you actually had the nerve to stand up to him has probably left him crying hot, salty tears and hitchy little-girl sobs.

Being an expert in this area, it could be many things. But a nap would certainly be one of them. Or...
Caffeine
Anxiety
Stress
Crystal Meth

Go see them. It's not so much a performance as a party that makes you hungry for gumbo.

I'm sure you are correct, but I don't think Burger was disputing that. His prose left a bit to be desired, but he was just saying that there are 3 options as to type of dress and camo is one of them. I wouldn't buy his book, if this is indicitive of his writing style, but I don't think he meant that camo could be formal dress.

I could have said whiff or something, but I think Burger contributed, so I won't. I had to re-read his opening line 3 times.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Nobody told me this kid is a newber! I tend to reserve my particular brand of bitchy hate for the washed-up old skool hacks, while at the same time welcoming the newbers with my particular brand of tender love and loving tenderness.

Welcome aboard, newber! As I'm sure you will soon see, this place is much like a cocktail party, albeit a cocktail party that lasts several years with exactly the same guests (most of whom are turn-your-face-away-in-horror drunk) and exactly the same conversations (which comfortingly occur in a prescribed order). Anyhoo, my point being that, as with any cocktail party, it is best to mingle a bit and listen in on the conversations before jumping in with your own contributions. It is no coincidence that some of the most popular and successful first-time posters have also been long-time lurkers.

With respect to your camouflage comment . . . well, you caught me! I am forced to admit that camouflage does indeed have as at least one of its purposes the camouflage function. Although that is not actually how it got its name . . . .

Rock Star INXS

So Mig's performance was not his best last night. But I hadn't realized that he's never been bottom 3. Those Australian voters must be all over the speed dial.

I still hate Suzie, I hope she's gone tonight.
I still love Marty but I'm still not sure he's right for INXS unless they're changing their style after all these years. JD made a huge comeback last night and it seems the band really really likes his original song. What's not to like? It sounds exactly like an INXS song.

I stand by my picks.

Thanks! I'm not generally a roll-over kind of girl, much.

Okay, I re-read it (again), and I think you are right.
