this is probably true. I think NZ had a great distance runner a bit ago.

I am pretty sure lunch with Hank is out of your price range, though.
Under $200 (the further under, the better and I have no clue on interests.

I think they have quite enough relatives to discuss the future with. Including, I think, some who will think outside the scary smart box (uh, I am in the box).

Plus anyone training on anything near the olympic level is training year-round. It's not like a kid on the US Hockey Development Team is taking the summers off to learn sailing.

Hockey is indoors. Running is not. Runners do train all year long, but I certainly run better in the summer than I do in the winter. That's true of all track.

Fringe, this is one of those opportunities for more snark you've been looking for.

Running is not a sport. It's a hobby.

To combine what Icky & I said, at the Olympic level, theyare training year round and during what would be winter they go somewhere warm to train.

poor runners from North Africa "train all year round" and are the best because there is no winter. They have little support and do not travel much to train, at least at the initial levels.

Poor runners from South Africa or the bottom of South America do too? No, it's winter. Icky's point is that well off kids in well off countries adjust, but that just proves my point. It's easier to be in the North Hemisphere for Olympics athletes.

New Year's trip

I'm thinking of trying to do a quick, easy beach trip over the New Year's weekend and I'm a bit stuck. I know I could do Hawaii or Cabo with a direct flight from LA but trying to branch out and go somewhere new. Was thinking about Costa Rica but alas no direct flights from LAX (which is sort of astounding to me). Really hoping to avoid doing a connection during the holidays so that is sort of limiting. So I'm considering Punta Mita and wondering if my online lawyer friends have other destinations that I might not have thought of... TIA!

This is not terribly responsive to your question, but FWIW, I traveled to Costa Rica back in April. You're right that there are no direct flights from LA, but I ended up taking a connection through Phoenix and it really wasn't that bad.

It may indeed be different during the holidays as you suggest, but I do recommend the trip, and taking this connection might well be worth it.

Do you dive? I've always wanted to go to Belize. Even if you don't dive, it might be nice.
