More black humor? But yes, I have planned to change it.

more ammunition for Bush opponents

From Andrew Sullivan:

Quote:
MORE ON AMMO: Another report on the widespread failure to secure munitions sites in Iraq:
  • Six months after the fall of Baghdad, a vast Iraqi weapons depot with tens of thousands of artillery rounds and other explosives remained unguarded, according to two U.S. aid workers who say they reported looting of the site to U.S. military officials.
The aid workers say they informed Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, the highest ranking Army officer in Iraq in October 2003 but were told that the United States did not have enough troops to seal off the facility, which included more than 60 bunkers packed with munitions.
"We were outraged," said Wes Hare, city manager of La Grande, who was working in Iraq as part of a rebuilding program. A colleague who also visited the depot, Jerry Kuhaida, said it appeared that the explosives at the Ukhaider Ammunition Storage Area had found their way to insurgents targeting U.S. forces.
"There's no question in my mind that the stuff in Ukhaider was used by terrorists," said Kuhaida.
This context is important. Al QaQaa is the tip of the ammo scandal. But if you didn't believe there would be an insurgency, why would you guard these dumps? There weren't enough troops to maintain order, let alone secure hundreds of sites. You can see the logic for the administration's position. But after six months?

Actually, the humor is lightening as I contemplate leaving here quite soon to go somewhere else where I am currently not in order to kill small game birds with large-bore shotguns.

Seems like the perfect end to a Friday, eh?

Be careful. There weren't enough troops to secure the area and they may have gotten weapons from unguarded weapons sites.

If you can tie the kid's shit-eating grin to what went on at Qa Qaa, I will worship you more than ever.

Note, I have not been watching TV news so I may be totally off on the pronunciation of Qa Qaa.

I think the Arabic pronunciation is more like "ka-k'aaah" -- not the Spanish word...

But, good one!

Oh - I just got the costume. I thought it was some sort of fucked up witch or something at first glance. For this costume to work the kid should be nekkid, and his momma should be following him around pointing and laughing at him.

Of course, parents that think it is OK to dress their kids up to advertise their political views would probably take that suggestion seriously.

And What If Someone Sneezed?

BUSH EVENT IN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Event workers had been told to fire off confetti pods when Bush said, 'God Bless'... his normal closing line. But 5 minutes before the end of his speech, Bush offered a "God Bless" to Arlene Howard, mother of George Howard a Port Authority of New York/New Jersey Police Officer killed in the World Trade Center... BLAM!!!!! Everyone first ducked -- hard -- then looked up to see confetti falling. Bush looked momentarily stunned, then plain unhappy, then just went on with his speech as the confetti rained to the floor of the Verizon Wireless Arena... Developing...

Again, lack of planning and coordination from the highest levels.

what if someone who posts about how they now "get" the costume also explains it to those of us who still don't. I'm just sayin'.

It would be easier to get if there were a pyramid of naked Iraqis nearby.

The picture is tasteless enough. Perish the thought that a parent would actually dress their kid up like that.

Do you eat the bird or just kill it for sport?
