I'd try asking the GC for some specific numbers so you can call your friends (and recruiters). And maybe volunteer to sit down with the GC to go over the printed list to make it easier to show which things are business and which are personal.
Sorry to hear the news.

You would be assuming rational behavior from a person who is not capable thereof.

Well, fuck, who knew that they could delete them off of the Blackberry like that? I didn't. And, if you're like most of us, you want to have personal phone numbers in the mobile phone that you use, so that you can call mom from the parkway.
Plus, this is a blackberry that she (not the firm) owned and that she (not the firm) got billed by, and paid, Verizon each month. How would anyone assume that this wasn't safe?

I'm paranoid, and assume nothing is safe (except posting here, of course).*
I would have thought that the BB would retain the data, but would give a sync error, rather than syncing with an empty database or deleting everything when it can't sync. But I don't have one.
(just to be clear, I'm not blaming BnB for anything--sounds like her employer is being extra-dickish without any real reason.)
*ETA: If you know how cloud computing works, you should know. I assume Google could delete all my email without warning, and I'd have no real recourse other than to bitch and moan. Same with blackberries--the data is stored on a server somewhere, and unless it's yours you presumably get only the access to it its owner gives you.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, which I am not trying to be, do you mean the GC or you? It's hard to tell whether to commiserate or sympathize.

Obviously it flew right past me. I should not post and conference call at the same time, especially when the client actually expects me to talk (silly client).

The GC. For someone who was laid off this morning and not even permitted to pack up my own desk, I think I am being amazingly rational.

This really, really sucks and I'm sorry to hear it. Two very close to me people who are very good at what they do have just been told that their contracts aren't going to be renewed, and they're in the process of separating their work lives and their life-lives.
My phone number is on my facebook profile, and 74 of my friends put their numbers in. It's not everyone, but it'd be where I'd start looking if something happened to my contact info.

I live
For those of you who are not within my inner circle or even the outer inner circle, and were worried for me these past few days, fear not, I am fine and I'm still on my meds.

a client was dumping an in-house guy today, I knew that. there was our friend and our enemy, and one was going. our enemy got the ax, and for a minute I was sort of happy, not gloating but the better of the two to go. then i realized they were both friends, and had been for years, and the guy who got it was my "enemy" only in the sense he was trying to feather another firm as his landing spot. He is way too old to be on the streets looking for a job.
it sucks that even the employed get forced to compromising how they look at the world. of course, it sucks more to be laid off, and I offer condolences to B&B and all of RT's friends.
